I believe you are running a 32 bit version of Calibre (because your OS/hardware is 32bit)
Only newer 64bit hardware is going to cure this |

I am the opposite of an IT guru, so apologies if what follows is crap, but either the Calibre version I'm running thinks my laptop is a 32bit Win10, or the Calibre version I've downloaded and installed is for a 32bit Win OS, or... what? EDIT: yes, my fault entirely, the software update icon connected me to the download of a 32bit version of the software. After downloading the right version the plugin worked just fine Last edited by bob_bookworm; 02-20-2016 at 11:25 AM. |

On windows, 64bit Calibre is a different installable than 32bit, so you have to deliberately download and install the 64bit version.
The line Windows-8-6.2.9200 Windows ('32bit', 'WindowsPE') suggests you do have 32bit Windows. I'm no Windows expert, but it would surprise me if you could get a 32bit computer these days. Also, 32bit can address 4G of memory. I can't guarantee that changing to 64bit calibre will solve this problem. But I would like to see you try it before we escalate to asking Kovid about it. |

Yes, I was running the wrong version of Calibre. After installing the 64bit version your plugin worked just fine. Now I will just have to do the split properly |

Glad it's sorted out. I'll have to remember that.

I split the epub of an omnibus of a thriller series, sorted the metadata, and converted to azw3. Now, I can only add one of the books to my kindle, not all of them. What's going on?

When you split, you need to give different titles, but did you also update the 'Title sort'? That's the box just below the title that lists titles like 'The Book' as 'Book, The'. There's a button to the right of the two boxes you can click to automatically populate it from the title. For existing books you can also do several at once: Select books. Tap 'E' (Edit metadata, bulk mode) Tick the box 'Update Title sort' OK |

New Test Version
This version adds an option (that is checked by default) that each new split book will take it's title from the first included TOC entry. If there's no TOC entry for the first included file, the previous behavior (Copy Title or 'Unknown') will be used. Last edited by JimmXinu; 11-01-2016 at 03:24 PM. Reason: Remove obsolete test versions - replaced by newer test or released version. |

cover picture clipped after epubsplit used
Hi,
I've just used the plugin 'EpubSplit' to divide into 3 seperate epubs the omnibus ebook which contains episodes 1-3 of Ryk Brown's 'Frontiers Saga'. After side-loading the 3 epubs to my kobo Touch (using Calibre), I found that the cover art shown on the Touch's home page, (and also shown when the Touch is sleeping), is not correctly scaled. Roughly speaking, just the top lefthand quadrant of the cover picture is displayed. This is the first time I have seen this glitch on my Touch. My system: Calibre 2.83 running on Linux Mint 18 (64-bit), EpubSplit v 2.2.0, Kobo Touch s/w v 3.19.5761 (12/29/15) Its no biggie; just a niggling minor irritant. But if anyone knows a cure I would be very grateful to hear it. |

In future, you should report issues with a plugin in the thread for that plugin. It's only chance that I even saw this thread--I don't check the forum list very often.
You'd think that how covers are coded in epubs would be standardized, but it's just not. Rather than attempt to keep the cover (X)HTML from the original, EpubSplit is coded to always use the same cover.xhtml code. Spoiler:
If your particular reader doesn't like that cover code, I'd try Calibre's Polish Book feature and see if it helps. UPDATE: I see some kind mod has moved us. Last edited by JimmXinu; 04-29-2017 at 09:15 PM. |

[Solved] cover picture clipped after epubsplit used
Thanks JimmXinu.
Your fine plugin now works for me! Turns out I hadn't selected 'Preserve cover aspect ratio' in 'Calibre Prefs > Output Options > EPUB output'. Sooo obvious in retrospect... |
