Kobo sometimes stops saving reading position
When going back to the main menu after reading, sometimes my Kobo Aura HD (unmodded) fails to save the current reading position. When it happens, it seems to happen for every book. Rebooting the Kobo always fixes the issue.
I've noticed this more and more recently, although I'm not sure if it's the recent firmware updates or the age of my Kobo. I had Windows run an error check on the drive but it came up clean. Does anybody else have this issue, or any solutions to it? |

That usually means the database on the device is corrupt. When the database is corrupt, the writes to it do not happen properly. Usually, it keeps working OK until the device is restarted. The database is read at that point, but, the contents are out of date. But, sometimes it works like you are seeing.
The only fixes are to restore a backup, or sign out of the Kobo account and back in. The latter will generate a new database and import your sideloaded books. If this is happening a lot, you might want to do a full factory reset to force a reformat of the book and root partitions. That could solve things. But, with the age of the device, it could be the SD card is failing and causing the writes not to happen properly. Replacing the card would probably solve the problems. |

I might try doing a factory reset. I hope it's not the SD card because I'm not good at taking small things apart.

not sure if it still happens in current firmware, but (years ago) it used to be a problem with not properly formed KEPUB books
it'd send you back to the first page of the current chapter - or even further back if the ebook didn't have one file per chapter internally |

Interestingly, I do use KoboTouchExtended drivers for the kepubs. But seeing as the issue seems to resolve itself when restarting I don't think that's the case.

Does anybody know if there's any cases where KoboTouchExtended may improperly convert the kepubs? In the cases I have seen, it does seem to jump back to the beginning of the chapter, though I'm not sure if that might just be because I tend to stop reading there.
