Scribd introduces universal eBook adapter

Here is an article that I don't really understand, and maybe one of you can explain it.

Scribd announced something yesterday that will allow its publications to be read on all eBook readers and smartphones.

All they seem to have announced is a "send to device" option. They are not converting the document to be (more) compatible with these devices, they just send the original PDF.

In most cases, they don't even send the PDF - they just email or text you a link to the PDF that you can then download through your reader's browser. They plan to release a mobile app soon, but till that happens their mobile device story is mostly marketing spin.

I'm currently investigating these new features, and this article does appear to be a lot of spin, and a little substance. If your device doesn't have the best PDF support you are out of luck with it.

If they do release an application which allows other formats like epub downloads they will be become a big player overnight in the e-book market. Their site is huge now, I didn't realise it had grown so much, and there is a lot of great content there!
