Video: 3M Library System with Ereader

This youtube video appeared recently that demonstrates how 3M's system works. Everything is cloud based with synced bookmarks across multiple devices. It's supposed to compete with Overdrive starting this year. No mention of whether all publishers will be participating.

They do show you the ereader that patrons will be able to borrow. It looks like a kindle clone.

It's a Boeye G6.

I was told that it is not the production model, but that it is merely 3M's test model. Let me go double check.

But it uses the cloud. Not very good when you have a reader that doesn't connect to the net or no net access.

Thanks, Nate. I knew you'd know what it was

I am disappointed a major ereader company wasn't selected. This would have been a good opportunity for B&N, Sony, Kobo, etc to put their ereaders in more people's hands. These are the kind of synergies they need to explore and develop. If people borrow these Boeye ereaders and like them, can they be purchased in the US?

Maybe they will not be used in the end. They probably won't sign the contract until after the ereader was beta tested first.

Added: No Pearl screen. Slowish processor. Not even presenting ereading at it's best. Evidently, they went for budget using a device older than the Kindle 3.

They look like they could be a clone of the K2.
