Bisexuals Offended By eBook CROSSOVER: Straight Men ~ Gay Encounters
CROSSOVER: Straight Men ~Gay Encounters (Icon Empire Press ebook) has offened members of the bisexual community for the lack of representation is a new series of short stories that looks at the taboo topic of heterosexual men having had gay encounters. It has drawn sharp criticism from people in the bisexual community.
“This ebook does not reflect bisexuality because many (bisexuals) lead happy and meaningful lives,” says Jon S a participating member of bi.org. The book is criticized because the “crossover” is from straight to gay. Many bisexuals don’t identify with this book because it doesn't establish a transition into bisexuality. The book tries to avoid the reference to bisexuality because most of the main characters self identify as heterosexual. It is geared toward women to help them gain an understanding in the thought processes of desire in men. “This is not a book about bisexuality,” says Robert Greene Author of CROSSROADS: Straight Men ~ Gay Encounters, “ It is addressing the mental turmoil straight men have with their curiosity and sexual identity.” Greene feels the book looks at what compels heterosexual men to act on their gay sexual desires. The ebook is available on Kindle eReader (www.amazon.com) ,Nook eReader (www.barnesandnoble.com) and KOBO eReader (www.kobo.com). Last edited by desaderal; 02-24-2011 at 01:44 AM. I'm still trying to figure out if the book is for sale by the OP (if so, why is he bashing his own book?) or not (if so, why does he have a link to it?). In either case, even if it met my needs, I'd find some other book that also met my needs without leaving me baffled by simple things like "what's going on here?"

People do all kinds of things you'd never expect, just watch a week or two of Jerry Springer. Straight guys going gay is pretty far down the list on the "freaky scale".

OK....I just cut and pasted something I saw on google. So, I got the background scoop. I googled the name and did some sleuthing. Here is what I found.
Apparently, the author gave the book to the LGBT community for endorsements and the bi-community trashed the book. Their arguement (soc.bi group) was that it skips or excludes bisexuality as a natural "middle" process and goes right for "gay". I was confused too which was why I posted it. ..I mean confused about the story....hehehehehehe |

Actually it's an interesting topic.
I've often thought that the term sexual preference meant exactly that. So I wouldn't think being heterosexual wouldn't exclude same-sex encounters, although would probably make long-term same-sex relationships unlikely. Bisexuality as a sexual preference to me would mean - no particular preference and would also probably mean that long-term same-sex relationships would be as likely as "different-sex" relationships. That is if I take the idea of sexual preference to mean a preference. So I guess I'm saying, I wouldn't necessarily question the sexual identity of a heterosexual guy/girl if I found out they just went 12 rounds in bed with a partner of the same sex. So to make this vaguely on topic - I find the subject matter and the surrounding controversy interesting, although perhaps not $7.99 interesting. Regards Caleb |

Is the original poster even the author of this book?

He is the publisher of it.

Okay ... it's the middle of the night, and I'm all stuffed up with allergies, so my brain isn't braining very well ... but would someone please explain to me why the publisher of a book would just cut and paste something he saw on Google? Especially something trashing his own book? Like, doesn't he have much better material to work from than a violently negative review?
I'm sure this all makes some kind of sense, but maybe because I'm currently checking around to see if there's something like the X-prize for the first sinuses in orbit, it doesn't make much sense to me. I'm just confused. |

To get people to go look at the book by stirring up fake controversy, maybe? "That group doesn't like this book, and if you don't like that group, you'll like this book!!!!!"
For the record, I'm not offended, merely baffled as to what the OP is going on about and why. Also a little annoyed, maybe. But then I don't consider het men having gay encounters to be a taboo topic anyway. One of the many benefits of being Canadian. Men, women, inflatable goats, whatever. As long as they're all consenting* adults†. * This nicety can be skipped for the inflatable goats. † But not this one, since I don't want to encourage anyone to have sex even with blow-up kids. |

that was my first thought - someone stirring up controversy trying to get more interest.
it would have been nice to simply have a synopsis of the book posted. we don't know what it's about, and personally i don't read books just because they offend someone. heck, there are plenty of straight men who discover an interest in gay sex who don't identify themselves as bisexual, and these are fictional characters, for goodness sake. btw, the book is "geared toward women to help them gain an understanding in the thought processes of desire in men." really? this one author can speak for all men? you know, different men have different thought processes - it's not like all males are generic. |
