Can anyone tell me if the JetBook Lite reads the Sony store DRM format? I think Sony is ePub or some form thereof?

Geez louise, I browse these forums all the time and still can't answer this. How do 'normal' people purchase an ereader? Stupid device-specific DRM.

No, you would need to strip the DRM first as JBL reads only non-DRM epub files. It opens B&N secure reader (PDB) files with your name and unlock code (credit card number used to purchase the ebook) and with the lastest firmware update you only have to enter this code once for all the ereader books on the device.

Thanks ngrant, I'll give this a try.

I downloaded a book for free during Read an eBook Week, and I hadn't figured out how to unlock it.

Actually the lite has DRM support for eReader. It is the standard JetBook that does not. Don't ask me why. It supports DRM from Barnes and Noble which should include eReader and EPUB. but I don't believe the Sony has been modified to support that.

Thanks for adding that clarification, Dale! Yes, it's only the LITE jetBook that supports the BN "secure" ereader format with firmware v15, regular jetBook owners are still awaiting their update. And Sony ADE epub books are a no-go with both versions of jetbook... I would like to say "for now" as rumours continue to swirl that Ectaco are "working on it".

I think $99 is a fantastic deal for the Lite jetBook; I paid $115 and still consider that a bargain.

I finally got my De-DRM working for those pesky ADE epubs after months of trying, so I am good to go with all the formats I need on my JBL except Amazon's Topaz -- and PDFs which don't look good at all on a small screen (to me). Those I still read on a big LCD monitor attached to my laptop.

GA Russell, I recall that you bought your JBL around the same time as I did (December last year), so if you haven't already done so, you will probably need to update the firmware in your device to get the full features of the BN pdb format, font sizes etc. Follow the instructions given here
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70171
and good luck!

Thanks ngrant, but I think I'm set. I got version 14 originally. But you may recall that my unit froze. The one they replaced it with has version 15, which as far as I know is the latest.
