FREE/BARGAIN — Science Fiction & Fantasy

This thread is for pointing out free and bargain Science Fiction and Fantasy titles to each other. Please don't post any self-published books (unless you have read them yourself, think they are excellent, and you're not connected to the author in any way) and please do a search before posting to avoid duplicates.

Because Kindle freebies are the easiest to find, the majority of books listed here will probably be from Amazon. That being said, deals from other retailers and/or in other formats are certainly more than welcome!
In the event that no retailer is specifically mentioned in a post, it is safe to assume the deal is for Amazon US.

As always — if a deal could span multiple subjects, please cross-post to ALL applicable deals megathreads.
This is pretty much the one time when double-posting is not only allowed, but encouraged. Seize the opportunity!

Keep in mind, most freebies last only for a day or two, so grab them fast!

(You can find the 2016 thread here)

This UF series by Laura Kirwan is pretty unusual because the MC is a 50+ YO woman. The first book is currently free and the 2nd and 3rd are on sale for $0.99. This is a Kindle only deal. I've read and enjoyed the first 2 books.

Strange, but oddly interesting! I'm halfway through the first one already. It's fun and delightfully different. So I got the other two, too.

Is Tor.com's eBook of the Month Club dead or is it just not updated due to the person in charge taking a New Year's vacation?

I'm halfway through the first Laura Kirwan and have now bought the other two. Very enjoyable; somewhat reminiscent of Jacqueline Carey's Agent of Hel trilogy.

Thanks to Worktolive for posting these.

John Brunner's 1975 novel Shockwave Rider is on sale at Amazon US for $1.99.

The title comes from Alvin Toffler's book Future Shock and is notable for coining the word "worm" to refer to a self-propagating program that spreads through a computer network.

Also Amazon US has A Midsummer Tempest by Poul Anderson for $1.99.

Nebula and World Fantasy Award Finalist: A fantastic tale of intrigue, love, war, magic, and swashbuckling adventure set in an alternate universe where fairies mingle freely with Englishmen and all of Shakespeare’s fictional characters are real

Bargain @ $2.99 CAD from HarperCollins in Canada as part of a Kobo Canada promotion until January 19th (I checked Kobo US, and it's $5.99 USD there):

SS-GB by master spy novelist Len Deighton (ISFDB, Wikipedia), his one and only vintage speculative fiction alternate history novel, written well before I was born, which is a murder mystery set in an England where the Nazis succeeded in their invasion and has a Wikipedia entry all its own.

This has been on my wishlist for years and I was very disappointed when the not-so-local library's old paperback copy seemed to have gone missing (or at least be consistently checked out whenever I visited), and now I can get it for less than the price of round-trip bus fare.

In February 1941 British Command surrendered to the Nazis. Churchill has been executed, the King is in the Tower and the SS are in Whitehall… For nine months Britain has been occupied - a blitzed, depressed and dingy country. However, it’s ‘business as usual’ at Scotland Yard run by the SS when Detective Inspector Archer is assigned to a routine murder case. Life must go on. But when SS Standartenfuhrer Huth arrives from Berlin with orders from the great Himmler himself to supervise the investigation, the resourceful Archer finds himself caught up in a high level, all action, espionage battle. This is a spy story quite different from any other. Only Deighton, with his flair for historical research and his narrative genius, could have written it.
