Calibre lets you add multiple file formats for the same book, so long as each file extension is unique. (When I need to create two EPUB copies for example, I will rename one from .epub to .original_epub.) So this is basically a matter of archiving all the images you wish to use in a single file (e.g. a zip file) and adding that as one of the formats for your book.
I’m not sure about displaying those covers in the library interface but with the flexibility of Calibre’s templates, I wouldn’t rule it out. |

Add me to the list of those who dislike TV series/movie tie-in covers.

I like some of them. The movie studios and their larger budget can come up with some very nice covers. City of Ember and Hunger Games comes to mind as well as some of the John Grisham and Michael Crichton movie/books.
The ones I generally dislike are the cheaper ones with just a picture of the cast in their outfits. |

I always replace ugly plain-text covers.
For the rest it's 50/50. I keep original cover if there is at least some artistic effort made and add coverart / alternate / 1st ed covers to the end of the book. If the book is a favorite, it may well get some fanart pics too. I've added rar-file to some books in Calibre, as a place to keep original pics (if art was too big), alternate covers I did not add to epub but liked, fanart, coverart, maps... |

No, but that's usually the edition that goes on sale, so, if I have to stomach the Amazon Prime Cast cover of Good Omens in order to get the ebook for two bucks instead of list price, I can always swap out the cover later.

People's opinions about TV series/movie tie-in covers vary a lot. Some folks love 'em, some don't. If you're not a fan but snagged a cheaper ebook with one, you could use software like Calibre to swap the cover on your device.
Just be careful, as messing with your ebooks might not be totally okay with the retailer's rules. At the end of the day, it's all about enjoying the book! |

As long as you bought it (not a borrow etc) and you never give/sell/upload copies they don't care. Almost all sales are civil contracts and the company suing has to prove loss. You can't add copyright newer covers to a PD ebook you re-share (unless you own copyright or pay royalty etc), but you can add them for personal use. The copyright covers are essentially adverts, so can't be used to "repackage" a product (even if same text) for any 3rd party, only for your own use. |

No one cares, as long as you do it for your own personal use. Folks here not only change covers, but edit metadata, formatting and even the content of their purchased ebooks (for example, deleting ads and excerpts from other books) and many of us have done it for a decade or more.

I'll also do anything to get rid of a movie cover.

I prefer the Search The Internet Plugin: Drop my choice into the MDE or Details pane.
That does not limit your sources to the Majors that Calibre normally uses. Once you have the cover you want in Calibre, you can use one of the standard tools or PI to update the metadata IN THE BOOK |
