50% royalties for ebooks vs 15% for Paperback

I've read in the past that artist are getting screwed by the music labels over the sale of their music online. In many cases the money goes to the label and not to the artist... NICE... So I've been worried that the book world might be the same, so it made me happy to see that at Mundania Press, their "default contract" gives authors 50% of revenue for ebooks.

In compensation for this grant of rights, the Publisher will pay the Author royalties based upon net sales (actual sales less returns) as reported by the Publisher's distributors as follows:

* For trade paperback copies sold less returns: fifteen percent (15%) of the net amount received for each sale.
* For electronic edition copies sold less returns: fifty percent (50%) of the net amount received for each sale.

Well. Amazon gives you 30% of your suggested retailprice.

And 15% for paperbooks is a very high number its usually mor like 5-8%

This is very interesting. If a paperback book costs $8.00 then at 15% the author gets $1.20. Therefore for the same return to the author on ebooks at 50%, they should only cost $2.40.

We're getting robbed on our ebook purchases!

And note that the figures just quoted for Mobi and Amazon are for "self-publishing". If an author sells an eBook via a publisher, their royalty payments will be a lot lower. All that's happening basically is that the eBook store is taking the same (approximate) 50% of the cover price that the traditional bookstore takes.
