Faulkner's Folly is a huge Palladian mansion which bankrupted its builder, and it is now owned by one Stannard, a famous portrait artist currently painting a portrait of Beatrix Faulkner, window of the former owner.

Then Stannard is murdered....

Classic style of murder mystery complete with house plan. The detective in this case is Alan Ford, and this is one of a small number of his cases recorded by Carolyn Wells.
