On Kindle for iPad, why are some of the covers tiny when they are big in Calibre

For many ebooks, they will have large covers in the Calibre software, but when transferred to Kindle for iPad, they will appear as tiny icons. See for example this screen shot which all have the same identical icons instead of cover images, yet all 4 have large cover images when editing the metadata in Calibre.

Why does this occur and how can it be fixed?

Thank you. But is the following from the FAQ correct?

"Note that if you send using email, Amazon will automatically mark the MOBI file as a Personal Document and the cover will work, but the book will show up in Personal Documents."

It seems Calibre is sending the books as email since I set up an SMTP server link in Calibre, and then I see the books show up in the outbox of that email server. Yet even sent as email, there are no covers.

Yes, it's correct. If you are sending by email then there is nothing calibre can do about it, it's up to amazon to put covers or not. You should contact amazon for support.
