Apple is going to announce an ebook reader next week
Do you remember the news reports about Apple meeting with Harper Collins? Well, Mike Shatzkin think that Apple is going to offer publishers a new and better split of the retail price. Given that Amazon just announced a new royalty option, I would say it's almost confirmed that Apple will announce some type of tablet like device next week.

An app alone, no, but together with the itune store, it might. Would be even better if they'd offer a format you can even use on your Kindle...

Nate's got a point, I mean Apple did go with the ipod and not just computer programs for music.

But they already have the itouch and the iphone, which are both perfectly capable of reading books. And somehow, I don't see Apple going with e-ink... So, a reader might still be a new version of either device, with maybe a few things extra specifically for ereading, but not specifically made for it.

Judging from the direction Apple went with the Ipod (I.E. Shuffle, no screen MP) it really wouldn't be surprising for them to make an E-ink reader....
Though it will be underwhelming to their capitalism. Maybe. I don't know. Don't kill me! |

Total speculation. Just like the tablet itself.

There's nothing wrong with speculation. I even think it's a good thing. As long as you don't believe everything, but be critical about it.
That Apple is going to announce a new device, I think we all agree on that. However, how that device will look and what it can do, that's where the differences start. Nate thinks that it'll be some kind of tablet, I think it'll just be a new version of an existing device (either Itouch or Iphone), which might possibly have some extra functions for ereading. But we could also be completely wrong and they'll anounce a deal with Sony |

Unfortunately being "capable of" doesn't mean that they're good enough to compete with the other devices and the on-line booksellers. 8 years ago, my Pocket PC was a better reading device than today's iPhone. I had built-in multi-lingual dictionaries .

I agree yagiz, yet their whole system is a little too occupied for a reader I still think.

On the other hand AUO already manufactures LED's for Apple. AUO is SiPix's biggest shareholder...
