The problem is that unlike Kindles using a USB mass storage (USBMS) connection where the entire partition is exposed and, if you enable viewing system files on Windows (remove the checkmark from Hide protected operating system files, you will see a directory called system inside of which is the thumbnails directory. Kindles using a MTP connection do not need to expose the entire partition and so Amazon does not expose the system directory so the Amazon cover bug fix is not able to work.

To fix this, you would have to re-write part of the Amazon firmware which is not possible on a non-jailbroken Kindle. And that fix would need to updated for every new firmware revision.

Oh no, stick a gun to Bezos' head would be violent. My feeling is, that human Intelect always smash the brute force.
Amazon did impose DRM, right? And somebody's Intelect prevailed. Then they changed it to different one and somebody Intelect prevailed again.

I don't want to argue with you, unfortunately I'm in health care business and working in hospital and I don't know, how to write program. (Oh, how I wish I could!) But we never give up on our patients and we are fighting for them, because we know how and they don't.

Just my 5 cents feeling.....

Sometimes it's not possible to circumvent the corporate stupidity no matter how brilliant you are. Kovid and others working on Calibre are probably brilliant and likely most Amazon programmers are average to poor. But they are the ones creating it, so they have the bolts on their side of the door.

Book cover thumbnails are easily obtained on a Colorsoft by using the method that Amazon provides to customers for transferring personal documents to a Kindle. In this case the door is open with a "Welcome" sign in front of it and people are complaining that they can no longer get inside by crawling though a window.

It's a problem artificially created by Amazon.

Well thank anyway for your great job in Calibre!
This is Amazon's fault. They took away access to the system directory for the 2024 models. So there is no way to overcome the cover issue like there is for older Kindles.
