Maybe this should go in the Lounge, but I was hoping for a wider audience here. (Mods, please move if appropriate)

Step 2 -- Meh... it's an old book cover, so what?

Step 3 -- Look closely at cover image.

Step 4 -- Spit beverage over keyboard.

Some of these are amusing but others I don't "get" at all, I must admit (which is probably my fault!). Numbers 3 through 5, for example, look like normal book covers to me.

True -- some are awfully real-looking (although I *did* think the blurb on # 3 from the "Motley Register" was worth a double-take. And compare the author tag-lines #3 and #7).

Must be a joke. I was like WTF Litter box the size of Nebraska on the girl and the dragon one and something about a cattle prod

Yup. They are parodies on old pulp fiction and sci-fi paperbacks.
The scary part is, if you don't look closely, they seem pretty legit!

Ah, yes, paperback covers of the sixties!
They match the house style of the imprints, too.

Thing is, some of the blurbs might even be direct quotes from the period.

Lots of stuff to remember but the one about hunting the English garden really stood out. All you need to hunt quail effectively. If he's really working with stock art I want to know where that piece came from.
