Kindle Notes & Highlights now viewable!

Looks like Amazon allows notes & highlights to be viewed:
http://kindle.amazon.com

I don't have any notes/highlights stored on Amazon's server myself, so can't tell if they're deletable via the website. If so, I wonder if this will take care of the "not getting an updated ebook version" problem, where a previously downloaded ebook won't redownload the newest version of itself.

No - you can't delete anything (or edit).

Also, you no longer can get an updated version of any Kindle book, even if you make no notes at all.

koland,

I read the same thing you did, but this is directly contradicted by the statement that people will be able to download the updated version of the Lord of the Rings omnibus. So we'll just have to wait and see.

The publisher may allow it, but apparently Amazon can't cope with it, the way their system is currently designed (unless, of course, you return the book for a refund, then buy again at the current price; ridiculous that CS can't just automate that process with a single click at their end, even if they won't let us do so).

Those of us who bought from other companies should be able to get the fixed version by a re-download, as I know of no other company that maintains a database of old versions and tracks which one you purchased so they can lock you into it forever.

Has Amazon themselves issued a statement that you'll be able to get an updated version? Or just the publisher?

Just the publisher. We'll know more when it happens.

Hum,
<puts on tin foil hat>,

Implications? Amazon is now uploading everything on your Kindle whether it is from them or not?

<doffs tin foil hat>
