The #1 Thing People Use A Kindle Fire For Is....
According to an RBC survey, it's "reading books."
Fire owners buy lots of ebooks, and video isn't that popular. A few other interesting results in the article/charts: http://www.businessinsider.com/how-p...-fires-2012-1# This may not look good for epaper.... |

Might want to change the title to indicate that it is the Kindle Fire they are talking about, rather than Kindles in general.

Interesting business model that they actually lose money on the sale of the reader and make it up on book and app sales over the next 3 years. Kind of a "loss-leader" to draw you into their clutches!
No wonder they don't try too hard to let you read library books on it! |

When I first read the thread title, I thought "Read books." Then I saw the chart, said "From the 'No duh' department..." and saw the other activities and figured that the topic title should've been Kindle Fire, not just Kindle.
That said, I don't think that eink/epaper is going anywhere anytime soon. |

I think for the percentage of streaming movies we need a ratio of Kindle Fire owners to Amazon Prime memberships. I'm betting folks with Prime watch a lot more movies than those without Prime who would have to convert/sideload movies.
Also, I guess being wifi only, its harder to stream movies on the go and if you are in your hosue, just use your tv. |

There is something wrong with the graph. You would use an app to read books, so it's not possible to have 70% reading books and only 20% using apps.

ETA: But I wonder why "playing games" and "using apps" are two separate categories... I suppose they are using apps that aren't games? Last edited by banjobama; 01-20-2012 at 12:08 PM. |

I'm interested in the 3.9% - anyone got something they'd like to tell us about?

Comics is probably one example, where those reading them wouldn't consider them ebooks.
