Blackberry Playbook
Found the video below on the playbook. Quite interestingly enough it stated that if you don't have access to WiFi that you can connect over a 3G connection provided that you also own a BlackBerry handset.

Yes, you can even use the Blackberry phone as a "modem" and just plug it into your laptop, not fast but OK for email and getting information online.

I am aware of that as you can tether most smartphones, however the Playbook will only work with a blackberry handset. So if you want to use your Playbook without WiFi it is RIM or nothing.

That's not strictly true though. If it uses wifi then any phone that can create a wifi hotspot could be used. So any Android 2.2 phone or a previous version that's been rooted and had a wifi tethering app added like barnacle. Or even a dedicated mifi device. I think the news about this is all a little misleading.

Until we get more hands-on previews we can't be sure how it will work, it might just be the case that tethering using a blackberry gives more features rather than assuming it will only work with them.
