Moving books purchased from BORDERS from my KOBO to Calibre

Is it possible to move/share ebooks I purchased from Borders from my ereader or from the Borders desktop to the Calibre library? I saw in another thread that you cant move the preloaded ones but it didnt say anything about purchased ebooks.

It all comes down to FORMAT, FORMAT, FORMAT..

If these are books that you have downloaded via Adobe Digital Editions (ie the acsm file from the web site that in turn downloads the ePub) then yes; you CAN add the book to Calibre, but since it has DRM in it many of the Calibre features will not work,

On the other hand, if it is the so called "kePub" format then no; you can't do diddly with it.

Thanks for the quick response!
I was worried you were going to say that. So basically the $8-$12 dollars I spent "buying" these ebooks only gives me the ability to read/use them as long as its through BORDERS or KOBO. One of the downsides to purchasing a digital instead of hard paper copy of a book I guess.

Most books purchased through Borders were available as an ePub (and some PDF) download using Adobe Digital Editions (there might me a very small percentage that aren't). ADE ePub's can be read on numerous devices (almost everything but a Kindle) so you aren't stuck with only using them on a Kobo. I've got over 100 books in my merged Kobo/Borders library and can use them all, yet don't own a Kobo or have their desktop software installed.

I find that if I add a book I bought through the Sony ebook (borders) site, I can not read it in the Calibre software due to DRM. Nor get the cover and other info. Is there a way to download it directly to Calibre? Or with the PRS-900 to buy it from the wireless device and then move it into Calibre?

Anyway you get it to calibre it will still be restricted with drm. Calibre does not remove drm. We refrain from giving detailed instruction or linking to drm removal tools here at Mobileread, but there are tools that will remove the drm. Check Apprentice Alf's blog for info.
