Kobo Libra 2 for Manga?
I'm new to manga and to e-readers. I was initially looking at the Forma because the 8" screen is better for manga, but idk if I want to buy a basically discontinued device. There's apparently going to be a Forma 2, but I'm not sure if Kobo expects the Sage to fulfill this. I really wish Kobo made an 8" version of the Libra 2, as it would be perfect for me.
Here's a short breakdown of what I think of the options:
Can anyone shed light on their manga experience with these devices? thanks! |

Firstly, where do you get the information that there is going to be a Forma 2? I don't think I have seen anything and I am fairly sure the Sage is the replacement for the Forma.
For your other comments: The Forma is probably being discontinued, but, it is still available many months after the Sage was released. I don't know what that means. But, the hardware in it is as up to date and capable as anything else. Kobo is still releasing firmware updates for it and there is no reason to think that will stop. They are still releasing firmware updates for the Touch that was released in 2011. If the device fits your needs, you should not ignore it. For the Sage, I do not believe there is an extra layer for note-taking. It uses a wireless connected pen. There are people in the Kobo forum who have both the Sage and Libra 2. These use the same resolution and version of the e-ink screen. I haven't seen any comments suggesting the Sage screen is worse in any way than the Libra 2. Comparing my Sage to my Libra H2O or Forma, it is better. It seems clearer and easier to read. But, honestly, that is only noticeable when I am swapping between them. |

Digitizer layers are usually UNDER the screen, if needed at all. Only a resistive dumb stylus layer (about x10 resolution of IR) or capacitive touch layer reduces brightness.
The Sage and Elipsa without front light are as bright as my original Libra. The Sage font at the same size as Libra H2O is just as sharp. I can read all day on the Sage, also I have a €2 3 m long USB C cable if I should need to use my ereader or tablet while it charges at 1.5A (works with cheap USB-C >micro-USB 1cm long pllug/socket for phone and older tablets/readers). The Sage also charges maybe x4 to x8 faster than my PW3. I've no experience of Manga. Last edited by Quoth; 06-22-2022 at 06:48 AM. |
