Oof, please disregard. Perhaps my initial install worked all along, and the problem was that OOOF, things are so complicated now with KUAL and MRPI! (But woot, finally got it installed. Ok ... now to try and get SSH working!)

Hey! I'm currently trying to jailbreak my 7th Generation basic kindle KT2, and am getting stuck at the "application error" after sideloading content, and exiting the demo menu. After a hard reset and pressing the store button the application error persist.
I'm also at 5.12.2, not 5.12.2.2 does this matter?

Hope someone could help. Really miss my Ko-reader on the kindle.

First generation Paperwhite? PW1 can be downgraded back to 5.4.4 ( you copy over firmware bin file and force a reboot by holding the power button on Kindle, without ejecting the kindle drive from your computer) and then jailbreak using this old jailbreak method:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=186645

After doing the jailbreak and installing the hotfix you can then update back to to the latest firmware (5.6.1.1).

Talking PW2 issue | "Wi-Fi Settings Locked" FIXED

Decided to do a factory reset via "DO_FACTORY_RESTORE", and went through the steps again. At step 10 of Jailbreak, I tap on the Store button, but it pops up: "Wi-Fi Settings Locked - This is a manged device..."

So I don't think the Jailbreak is actually running, despite all of the files being there in the .demo folder.

Any advice? I'll probably do another factory restore and try it again. Thanks!
I HAD the exact same issue with my PW2 (5.12.2.2)

I follow all steps and every single time it gets to the "Push store button instead for PW2" it just opens store for a brief second then the "Wi-Fi Settings Locked" message pops up, and no amount of closing it and pushing store button again will fix it.

Yeah, so basically you and I messed up from Step ONE. I had always selected the "English (United States)" option, when the instructions SPECIFICALLY state "English (United Kingdom)"

Did all the exact same steps again and this time, soon as I hit "Store" it restarted and jailbreak was installed.

Continue with the tutorial friend

update hotfix not working kpw4

I got as far as the post-jailbreak step where you're supposed to install the "hotfix". I copied "Update_hotfix_watchthis_custom.bin" to the root of the Kindle storage but I can't run "Update your kindle" as it is permanently greyed out. I've tried re-starting but that hasn't helped.

Any ideas? Thanks

I got the same issue. The update field iis greyed out on my pw4. Is there no solution to this?

Try just restarting the Kindle after you copy the file.

While rebooting, there is running some of the jailbreak script in the corner, stating: "finished installing jailbreak."

But afterwards there is still the issue with the greyes out update field.

Can't create a file in my kindle? Read-only error?

I everything was good until i reached this step:
"1. Connect the device to a PC and:
2. Create the directory .demo at the root of the Kindle storage"

I was able to create the .demo directory, and was about to continue with the jailbreak, however I think that maybe my usb cable was faulty or something and disconnected (I don't think there were any operations in progress though).

Now I no longer see my .demo folder (maybe I deleted it?)

The most annoying thing is that whenever I to create a file I get a "cannot create file error: Read-only file system

Are you supposed to eject your device from your pc every time you disconnect it? I suppose it doesn't hurt. I hope my storage isn't corrupted

Thanks in advance

It seems many people is having problems with the kindle 5.12.2.2 firmware. I have a 6th generation paperwhite. and used payload PW2 as instructed here.
followed all the steps and It seems that nothing changed, except that after following all the steps, I'm no longer in demo mode.
what to do?
also there is any tutorial about how to use this jailbrake? using scripts, etc.?
thank you!

Thanks to katadelos for the tutorial. I appreciate the time and effort spent assisting dummies like me.

I'm stuck. The directions seem to be either wrong or missing some info.
I am using a PW5 with 5.14.2 firmware.

For the setup I followed steps 1-3 without issue. There was nothing to indicate I was in "demo mode" at step 4.
I found others with similar issue that said to skip to step 9. I did so and was able to proceed to the jailbreak instructions.

Now I am stuck on step 5 or 6 of those Jailbreak instructions.
I took step 5 to mean: create an empty folder named "goodreads" under the ".demo" folder. It is not quite how it is written but I cannot see what else it would mean.

Now step 6 suggests I will see a prompt. I am still only seeing the "USB Drive Mode" screen as from when I entered the "sideload Content" option from setup.

Am I supposed to disconnect the kindle? Am I supposed to "eject" it but leave the cable connected? Do I summon a goblin to enchant the device to give me the prompt mentioned in step 6?

I may be wrong but I believe the "." at the start of the directory name makes it hidden.
