I don't know of any company that stops selling one device because in a few weeks they will begin selling something newer. Is there nothing on the FNAC website indicating that new devices are doming?

And there is nothing in the site concerning the new versions of Kobo. The Kobo touch is per si the novelty. |

The Kobo Touch is being sold up here still by Indigo, even with the other new models coming - or did you expect Portugal to sell the Glo before the rest of the world, because Fnac just started carrying Kobo products?
They can't sell what they don't have, or blow the street date. Expecting them to sell the Glo first is like expecting Amazon to sell the Paperwhite in the UK before the US, just because Amazon opened up UK sales for the Kindle Fire recently. |

That's just not nice at all. They should at least advertise that the Glo is coming soon. Otherwise, they should have kept the Touch in the basement until the Glo was there to sell as well, to give people a choice. |

Highly variable depending on product (some special markers I bought for work from the U.S. were almost double price by the time duty and import fees got tacked on) and I'm not sure on electronics.

Especially since FNAC has been selling Kobo Touch devices in France for quite some time now. Yes, now it's in Portugal - but they don't have to immediately stop sales just because a new device is on the horizon. What they can do is advertise the new device and price-drop the Touch, as they have in other markets. |

Now, if you are thinking of importing from Canada to Australia, I doubt you would have any duty because the value is below AUD500. From what I understand, they only hit you with GST once it goes above AUD500 anything below, just gets ignored. |

To make it fun in beautiful British Columbia, we voted down the HST and are converting back to a GST/PST scenario. My betting is that it won't save the average British Columbian a nickel in the long run. I would have said a penny except the last Canadian penny was made in July, 2012. |

The rates vary wildly depending on what you are importing and where you are importing from. You also run into the "class or kind not made in Canada" clauses which levy reduced to no duties on anything that falls under those clauses.

The launch schedule (and/or the website content) may have been a FNAC decision, rather than Kobo's. FWIW, whenever a new product is announced--even if people lightly following tech probably ran into a discussion of new hardware to come--there are always outcries from folks who feel ripped off because they bought the older ones. My cell phone contract is up and I am looking at a Note. There isn't a hint about the new version being available very soon on my provider's website. It's always a lousy situation to be caught up in this sort of thing. Feels like a gotcha. |

In France, the Glo will be available from FNAC only (at least for some time) at 130€ (OK 129,90€ to avoid scaring people ) from october the 15th

If I were to order a Kobo Glo today from Best Buy in the US it would cost $139.45 ($129.99 plus $9.46 sales tax for my area of Minnesota, assuming free shipping) which is about $134.65 AU.
