You can find Services by right clicking This PC, then Manage. In Windows 11 you right click This PC and click More Options, then Manage

Typing the quotes around services.msc does not prevent it from running. Standard Windows practice when the command line has items with spaces in them.

The "Services" at the bottom of the context menu shown there is the one I was referring to.

Which brings me to my own peve about recent Microsoft: removing useful features and adding "features" nobody asked for. Like removing the Calendar program which integrates with the clock/calendar/notifications thingie on the task bar and replacing it with a quarter-baked incarnation of something they call "Outlook" which integrates with... itself? Nothing? Oh, and that Discovery channel in Teams that they still haven't given mobile users a way to destroy.

Also turning the Start menu/Launcher into a cesspit of advertising garbage.

Not seeing that on Win 10 - another reason to skip 11 like I did 8?

I discovered another MS stupidity today: - Alt+Space as a shortcut to pop CoPilot. Hello, Redmond, are you there… that's been the shortcut for the system menu in applications since forever and a day… including in CoPilot itself!

I agree that Microsoft often makes changes that make little sense. One of the bad things about Windows 8 was the elimination of the "X" in the corner to close a window, something that had been part of Windows going back to (IIRC) Windows 3.0 if not further back. There was no reason to change it, and yet they did.

Concerning E-Book Readers: The use of a single diagonal measurement to describe the size of the E-Reader's screen. It was fine in the days of NTSC television since the relationship between the width and height of the screen was always the same regardless of the screen's size. The same thing when it came to HDTV.

However, when it comes to E-Reader Screens that is not the case. I have a NookColor and a Nook Glowbright 4 and with both the width of the screen is 3.5 inches, however the height of the NookColor's screen is 5.75 inches while the height of the Glowbright's screen is 4.75 inches. Due to this, they need to mention the width and height of the screen rather than just the diagonal measurement.

I'm not seeing this in Windows 11. I just see what I pinned and "Recomendations" (which is things I've recently done and recent files).

The ads are there on Windows 10 but easily disabled by turning off "Occasionaly show suggestions". Last I knew.

You may have disabled it somehow. By default you will see applications in the Recommendations section which aren't installed on your machine. Search UI can be even worse.

I don't have any third party start menus addons. I didn't do any registry editing for the start menu. So if I did disable it somehow, I would guess that just about anyone could by doing an internet search.

Or maybe if you don't do much the "recommendations" wouldn't change?

I have seen the Windows 11 Start menu "recommend" programs that I don't have installed. I don't know the mechanisms behind it.

Looking at my recommendations, I have items such as calibre-master(3).zip, a couple of .docx files, 3 epub files, a batch file, etc. Nothing that I have not recently used, nothing that is not installed on my computer.
