What's the Situation with Colour Ebook Readers at the moment?

I can't believe I've been a member of this forum for 9 years, almost!

A few years ago I was looking at a Russian made colour ebook reader. People here advised against this and said the colours of this reader were dull and unimpressive, plus the features were not great in this reader. Also, it was made for school kids if I remember correctly....

What's happened since then? Are there any good E readers with colour now, or is this still a non-starter?

There are still no good colour ereaders. Unless you count LCD/OLED tablets.

EInk's colour display is dull and muted
Qualcomm's Mirasol technology appeared, but was disappointing in practice and went nowhere.
Amazon seem to have given up on LiquaVista.
Bridgestone (yes the tyre company) has given up on their ePaper.

The only technology currently being developed seems to be ClearINK. Let's hope they bring something to market soon.

In 2010 I thought we'd see such a display commercially available by 2015.

Another five years and I lose money on my bet!

Mirasol was 'good enough'. Even without any improvements to the screen quality itself, the advances in frontlights (like Kobo's rgb), processors and batteries would allow manufacturers to offer a compelling Mirasol ereader today imo. Apple/Google/Samsung have abandoned ~6-7" tablets so there are no good small LCD/OLED tablets. There is a niche to be filled if someone would seize the opportunity

The problem (IMO) with mirasol wasn't the brightness of the display but the incredibly narrow viewing angle.
