That's too bad. I really want a non emissive display with high contrast and refresh rate. Looks like there's nothing on the horizon.

Was there ever a doubt?
The economics of LCD have killed everything this side of OLED and even OLED is having to hug the high end to prosper. Not much room for anything else. |

I imagine one of the main issues is that reading on phones and tablets is a great experience for most people. There wasn't going to be a huge market for this technology unless it could work better than lcd and be produced cheaper. Which never was likely.

Seems as though if it was vibrant, there would be demand (due to longer battery life), which would drive down price, which would increase demand, ...

It's one I found by Googling "Liquavista" and going to images. It may be that the source image wasn't that great to begin with. I believe it was taken from an old Guitar Hero game.
Try Googling Liquavista yourself. What's shown does look leagues better than color e-ink. Not that it matters I guess. Neither technology is threatening to break out and become widely available. |

It was unsuitable for E-reading due to artifacts. No surprise it was shot down when they failed to produce a production-quality prototype after having been wasting money for years.
