A children’s book from humorist John Kendrick Bangs, starring little Mollie, her rubber doll Whistlebinkie (who talks through a whistle in the top of his hat), and a very odd and opinionated little old man. The narration of their gently surreal adventures is chock full of humor and word-play, and great fun for readers of all ages. (Truly, some of the humor will require older, wiser heads for full appreciation.)

John Kendrick Bangs (May 27, 1862 – January 21, 1922) was an American author, humorist, and satirist. Between 1884 and 1906, he worked as editor at a number of magazines; then switched his focus to the lecture circuit. A prolific writer, he had more than sixty books published.

He wrote extensively in the genre of “Bangsian fantasy,” which sets the plot wholly or partially in the afterlife, with important fictional and historical personalities humorously portrayed as characters.
