The latest title (Jan 5, 2021) in Alice Duncan's Daisy Gumm Majesty series, Exercised Spirits, has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US. This series seems to have started out traditionally pubbed and moved to sort of self-pubbed, but in any case I have read all or nearly all of the titles in the series and like them a lot. I do have a little bit of bias, having lived in Pasadena for many years in and after college, but still, I really like this series.

Quote:
When a Woman Mysteriously Disappears From an Orange Grove Mansion, Daisy Gumm, Sam and the Ever Crotchety Lou Prophet, Launch A Search in Exercised Spirits, a Cozy Historical Mystery by Alice Duncan

--1926, Pasadena, California—

Already irked about having to participate in an exercise class with some church chums, Daisy is horrified when her beloved Aunt Vi, the greatest cook in Pasadena, goes missing from her place of employment--Mrs. Pinkerton’s mansion in Orange Grove.

Daisy, Sam and Lou Prophet launch a search, with some help from Mrs. Jackson, a real live Voodoo mambo from New Orleans, who is at present living in Altadena.

In the meantime, food preparation in the Gumm/Majesty/Rotondo households takes a severe downturn. Lou Prophet lends a hand, and the family finds themselves choking down some concoctions they never even knew existed.

But it's going to take more than some clever sleuthing from Daisy, a peg-legged man on a horse and some clever roping to bring Aunt Vi home.

A Snapshot of Murder is the tenth in the Kate Shackleton series by Frances Brody. I've read some of the early titles in this series after they went on sale at Kindle UK a couple of years ago, and liked them. Snapshot is on sale for $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US today.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Snapshot-Murd...dp/B07HM5L183/
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/Snapshot-Mu...dp/B07HM5L183/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-snapshot-of-murder-3

Spoiler:
Quote:
Critically acclaimed author Frances Brody is back with the tenth installment in her Kate Shackleton series, perfect for fans of Jacqueline Winspear and Nicola Upson.

Seven keen amateur photographers gather for the most popular openings of the decade. Only six will return.

Yorkshire, 1928. Indomitable sleuth Kate Shackleton is taking a well-deserved break from her detective work and indulging in her other passion: photography. When her local Photographic Society proposes an outing to the opening of the Bronte Museum, Kate jumps at the chance to visit the setting of Wuthering Heights. But the setting proves to be even more sinister than the dreary classic when a member of their party is found murdered.

The event is one of the most popular of the decade, and each of the seven photographers were there to capture the perfect shot of a lifetime. But Tobias, the deceased, was known for being loud-mouthed and didn’t care to curb his demeanor. Kate deduces that he must have had several enemies. But soon, she begins to suspect that perhaps the murderer is amongst them. And before they shrink to just a group of five, Kate must pick back up her magnifying glass and sleuthing cap to crack the case in A Snapshot of Murder, Frances Brody’s tenth brilliant Kate Shackleton mystery.

The Postscript Murders is the second and latest in the new Harbinder Kaur series by Elly Griffiths. Even though it's still not even out yet in the US (early March), it has gone on sale for £0.99 at Kindle UK as part of today's Daily Deal. I love the way Kindle UK does this with most-recent-in-series titles - put them on sale at a really good price (albeit briefly, and usually not again for a long time) fairly soon after they come out. And it's not because the series isn't any good - per SYKM, the first title in the series, The Stranger Diaries, won the 2020 Edgar for Best Mystery. Anyway here's info:

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Postscript-...dp/B0817MKHHZ/
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Postscrip...dp/B0817MKHHZ/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The ultimate gripping murder mystery for winter nights, from the bestselling author of The Stranger Diaries and the Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries

PS: thanks for the murders.

The death of a ninety-year-old woman with a heart condition should absolutely not be suspicious. DS Harbinder Kaur certainly sees nothing to concern her in carer Natalka's account of Peggy Smith's death.

But when Natalka reveals that Peggy lied about her heart condition and that she had been sure someone was following her...

And that Peggy Smith had been a 'murder consultant' who plotted deaths for authors, and knew more about murder than anyone has any right to...

And when clearing out Peggy's flat ends in Natalka being held at gunpoint by a masked figure...

Well then DS Harbinder Kaur thinks that maybe there is no such thing as an unsuspicious death after all.

From the sleepy seaside town of Shoreham to the granite streets of Aberdeen, The Postscript Murders is a literary mystery for fans of Anthony Horowitz, Agatha Christie and anyone who's ever wondered just how authors think up such realistic crimes...

The Sultan's Seal is the first in the Kamil Pasha series by Jenny White, set in the late Ottoman Empire. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (discountable at Kobo). I've read and quite liked all three books in this too-short series, and this one, the first, was a finalist for a Historical Dagger award in 2006. Sadly the other two titles in the series don't go on sale much at all in the US, so if you like this one, your library will be your friend, although I did notice that the second in the series, The Abyssinian Proof, has been £0.99 at Kindle UK for a while.

A rare price drop to something reasonable on an Open Road title in the UK, and in one of my favorite series too. Harm's Way is the eleventh in Catherine Aird's Inspector Sloan/Constable Crosby Calleshire series. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VUC3HEI
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VUC3HEI

Spoiler:
Quote:
Can Inspector C. D. Sloan find his man when a dismembered appendage appears at a local farm in this mystery by CWA Diamond Dagger winner Catherine Aird?

When the Berebury Footpaths Society created their locally infamous motto, “Every walk a challenge,” they couldn’t have known just how apt it would be. Avid hikers Wendy Lamport and Gordon Briggs suffer from a good walk spoiled when, while reclaiming a public footpath from the greedy barbed-wire fences of encroaching farmers, a crow drops a severed human finger at their feet. And where there’s a finger, thinks Detective C. D. Sloan, a body can’t be far behind.

It would seem that there are a handful of bodies to whom the finger might belong. There is a suspiciously long list of people gone missing from Great Rooden’s farming country: the tippling son of a local pillar of society, a financier who may have angered the wrong man, and even an old tramp or two who may have thieved one too many apples. Can the old tag team of Detective Inspector C. D. Sloan and his sidekick, Constable Crosby, solve the case?

Crime Classics apparently have the e-publishing rights to most (all?) of Edmund Crispin’s Gervase Fen books in the US, but perhaps not so much in the UK, where most of his titles seem to be published by Collins Crime Club and/or Bloomsbury. Crime Classics have put five titles on sale in the US for $0.99 each from now through February 1, 2021. The titles are Holy Disorders, Swan Song (apa Dead and Dumb), Love Lies Bleeding, Buried for Pleasure, and The Long Divorce (apa A Noose for Her). Of these, only one appears to be on sale in the UK at £0.99, The Long Divorce. These were some of the earliest non-Christie British mysteries I read after reading and loving Sarah Caudwell’s too-short four book Hilary Tamar series, and they share a lot of the same dry British humor – or humour! Now here’s your chance to pick up 5 of the 11 books (including two books of short stories) in the series.

Amazon US (link for all five): http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?sea...price-asc-rank

Amazon UK (The Long Divorce): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Long-Divorc...dp/B077PRGLVD/

The first three titles in Jake Needham's Samuel Tay series have dropped in price to $0.99/$1.99/$2.99 respectively at Kindle US, and £0.99/£1.99/£2.99 at Kindle UK. These are Kindle Countdown deals, good for more than five days still in each country. I've read and enjoyed all three of these.
