When the Harry Potter books were made available directly to ebook vendors (and not just through Pottermore), Apple created editions with animated illustrations in them. Not to be outdone, it was not long after that that Amazon came out with KIM.

Hmmm...different animated editions, than what are in the KIM versions? Different illustrations? That seems...that seems odd. I mean, imagine the brain-damage of having to get the illustrations or illustrator approved and all that, rather than both companies doing the same thing with different--slightly different--tech, using the same animated images. ????

Yes and no.

KIM only works in the iOS and Android apps and on Fire tablets and there is no way to get a usable KFX file from those devices. So you actually cannot convert KIM.

On a regular Kindle or the PC/Mac apps those books are delivered without KIM features and can be converted in the same way as other Kindle books.

Amazon does not have KIM versions of HP. All of the KIM books are via Amazon Publishing.

Weeeeellllll, I'll go tell the HP&TSS version that's sitting on my Kindle 10" that, then. :-) It's going to be shocked to learn that it doesn't exist! Poor lonely little thing....
