$80 Ebook - Anyone read this author....

...Ashok K. Banker or this massive $80 ebook, "RAMAYANA SERIES: THE COMPLETE EDITION"?

Here's the link to the book above:

http://www.amazon.com/RAMAYANA-SERIE...s=ashok+banker

I'm not certain how to view this one - as something religious or as something similar to Zelazny, or perhaps both?

I can't say anything about the content but if you are really interested in buying this series I guess you should buy the single books and not the compilation.
(And some of his other books have an interesting pricing too !)

If it's being treated as a fantasy series (story-telling-wise), then I'm somewhat interested; but, as a religious presentation, I have no interest at this time in engaging in reading any religious material.

I have not read it (though I have it ), but I think they are treated as fantasies built on "great Indian epic" story, or rather myths. I've read other versions of Ramayana and Mahabharata and to me, as non-Indian, they do seem like fantasies (just like all the other myths do).
Quote:
The Ramayana is an ancient Indian epic that has gone through many retellings and versions in different languages and styles, including a live-action TV serial and a film. Banker, in his foreword to the text, remarks that his version is by no means authoritative, and it merely follows in the footsteps of other authors of the Ramayana, including Valmiki, Tulsidas, and Kamban. He states his intent as a desire to portray the nature of ancient India and the epic story of the Ramayana through a medium that appeals to modern writing.
Edit: If you move to India today - you have around 1 hour left - you can get Blood Red Sari for free by the same author. Might help you reconsider considering 80$

Good ratings/reviews at both amazon and goodreads. you might look here at the Goodreads comments on the Book 1:

Seems like a 'take off' from Indian Mythology....

more comments on the other book in the series here:

Yeah. a bit overpriced, as the individual ebooks are less than $10 each.

For $80, it better be a completely error-free ebook, from the technical standpoint.
