I know this is not primarily what you asked for, but I think you should check out a series by Piers Anthony called the "Incarnations of Immortality."

How about the Damiano Trilogy by R. A. MacAvoy. Fantasy set in altered Renaissance Italy.

Review...(not mine)
Quote:
Reading this was like biting into a British Rail sandwich and (to one's stunned amazement) finding it delicious. Damiano carries, like spots of mildew, the outward danger-signs: it's a fantasy novel, by an American lady, volume 1 of yet another trilogy, with the usual rave recommendations from Anne McCaffrey and Andre Norton (who these days seem to spend more time plugging others' books than writing their own). Ho hum. But instead of swordsmen in fur jockstraps on the cover, there's a fine Alpine scene from Britain's very own Jim Burns; instead of routine fantasy questing within, we get a finely written mix of history and magic.

Angels and Ministers of Grace by Michelle O'Leary

You can borrow it for free if you are an Amazon Prime member.

Although technically not about angels, it is still a good read.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but angels play a part in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. It may however offend if you are very devoutly Christian.

Highly recommend Angelology by Danielle Trusson. It's like you put Dan Brown and Umberto Eco books in a blender and hit puree. Great fast read

I've not started the series as yet, but J. R. Ward's Fallen Angel series is on my TBR list. The main characters are both angels and male. And although she is known for wrining paranormal romances, a few reviews seem to indicated that these are not really "romantic". The first book is Covet
