How to convert PDF for Kindle2i

When ever I try to send a PDF to my kindle, there are line spacing that makes it difficult to read, the font size is too small to read. I must be missing something. Can anyone just guide me? Thanks.

I use Calibre to convert PDf files for Kindle, admittedly with mixed results. Someone elsewhere suggested converting them to text files first, then to mobi format. Anyone have a best practice procedure for this?
