This is also high on my 'want to read' list. It may be the next new book I start.

Since my last post, I've been busy:
I've finished:
I'm listening to Rachel McAdams reading of Anne of Green Gables for the New Leaf Book Club. I am reading Alan Hunter's Gently Sahib on my Kobo. |

Just finished Two Serpents Rise by Max Gladstone. Gladstone's world-building is incredible and I especially enjoyed the relationship between Caleb and his father. However, I thought the ending was anti-climatic. Still, this was well worth reading and I will eventually move on to the next in the series.
Next is a library book, Old Bones by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. |

If book 5 is 2023 I may still not start them until late next year. I have been buying them though. |

I just started James Islington's The Shadow of What was Lost.
So far, so good but lots of similar names/places. |

Next up (as well as the Brandon Sanderson epic): Through Fiery Trials by David Weber. Despite the dreadful names, I'm still reading his Safehold series. |

Interesting, that was an early college textbook of mine more years ago than I care to remember. I saved it for years thinking I would read it in its entirety while not under the pressure of class schedules, but that didn't happen. Eventually it went the way of most of my other textbooks. But I remember enjoying it at the time.

Wikipedia says there were 11 volumes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_Civilization Edit To Add: What did you read this on - how did the illustrations look? It has been years since I have seen the book and I don't remember how much color was included but I wonder how the ebook looks. Last edited by Kindleing; 01-21-2020 at 04:28 AM. Indeed I read it as an e-book, and there were only a few illustrations. I forgot what they were about. If I even had the paper books, I don't think that I would stop reading to focus on the maps etc. You should read the first book, if you're so nostalgic about it.

I haven't read anything of Leckie's that I did not enjoy. The Radch trilogy is still my favorite, but she always bring something new and unique. I also love her unashamed diversity. Raven Tower started a little slowly, but really picked up.
