For the above posts, there are better reviews on Amazon (in my opinion) than what Kobo offers, which should give one a feel for what readers felt about these various stories.
Also the books appear to be free on Amazon, as well, but they may not be DRM-free. I don't know. I haven't read any of these, but they appear to be zombie stories. |

Doug Gelbert's Walking Tour Guides
Smashwords is a great source of DRM-free ebooks. And also a great source for some books that might never get published by a major company.
You can find some interesting and unexpected things coming from Smashwords. For example, Doug Gelbert has produced a large number of brief "Look Up!" guides for walking tours in American cities. https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/eb...city-midtown-1 https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/eb...-hill-district https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/eb...loop-south-end There are a LOT of these, all priced at $0.99. And they're not all major tourist destinations; this one brings me close to home: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/eb...g-pennsylvania Doug Gelbert has also produced a series of "A Bark in the Park" books about good places to hike with a dog. At the Kobo store some of those are $0.99, some are going for $2.99. And in keeping with this thread, they're all EPUB2 (DRM-Free)! |

And thank you, Dr Drib, for examining the file and for complaining. I've deleted the original download, and re-downloaded the new one. I probably won't look at it for eons, so I wouldn't have noticed!

Free from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon: The Horsemen by Spur Award-winner Gary McCarthy, a 1st-in-series 19th century Tennessee western action adventure originally out from Diamond Books in 1992, which says that it has "Simultaneous Device Usage: Unlimited", which is the usual Amazon product listing codeword for DRM-free. Free and DRM-free
Velvet Lies: A Coral Palace novella by L. Shelby "You mean the man's own servants won't say who killed him because it wouldn't be polite?" Zelli thought he was just supposed to be carrying diplomatic messages from his home country to the Imperial Court of Borgim. But when he arrives at the Coral Palace, he discovers that the ambassador is suspected of murder. The Emperor assigns Zelli to the case, and gives him just two days to find the true culprit. It sounds like an easy task; there were half a dozen witnesses. Too bad the rules of etiquette absolutely forbid anyone from admitting that a member of the Imperial Court might do something wrong. How will Zelli find the murder, when no one will tell him the truth? http://www.amazon.comdp/B00RG1SZCG/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00RG1SZCG/ http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00RG1SZCG/ Introduction to the Coral Palace World NOT FREE but DRM-free Cantata in Coral and Ivory (Coral Palace) by L. Shelby Ikhsior never expected to inherit the family title, and would rather return to the roving life of a sea captain than remain a part of the Imperial Court. But it isn't easy to withdraw from emperor's service without damaging his family's honor. To regain his freedom, he must first master the intricacies of his new position. But a courtier's skills do not come easily to the former sailor, and the Coral Palace holds far more mysteries than he was expecting. How has he won the enmity of the court's most fashionable lord? Why did a young lady give him a device that shouldn't even exist? What is this moving statue that everyone seems to have seen but him? Could he possibly have lost his heart to one of the throng of art-obsessed courtiers? And does the future of the country really depend on what he does next? He has always been confident of his ability to achieve his goals, but this is the hardest and most confusing challenge he has ever faced. How can he succeed when he's no longer certain what he's trying to do? And just published. NOT FREE but DRM-free Pavane in Pearl and Emerald (Coral Palace) by L. Shelby A Mysterious Obsession The Emperor of Borgim has only one child. But although it is her destiny to rule a mighty empire, she seems to have trouble thinking about anything other than the great dance-dramas that are put on by the court. She takes the leading role in each production, and spends all her time and attention on practicing, directing and preparing for performances, and none at all on the affairs of state. Kide, one of the most accomplished courtiers in the Coral Palace, has been attempting to win the hand of the princess. Of an artistic bent himself, her fascination with dancing did not trouble him until he realized that, no matter how charming she was and how excellent her character, it did not make sense that all the ladies who attended her would mirror her obsessive behavior. And yet, every single one of her attendants seemed as single-mindedly devoted to the dance as she was herself. Something very strange is going on at the Coral Palace, and Kide needs to find out what before matters get worse. This threatens not only his matrimonial ambitions and his heart, but also his freedom, and possibly even the future of the entire nation. |

Free (and DRM-free) from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon: The Black Thread by Margaret Muir, an historical coming-of-age literary suspense drama set in 1890s Yorkshire England, originally out from UK publisher Robert Hale in 2007. I've actually read this one, and it's reasonably decent, though nothing particularly special, IMHO. |

I love the cover on 'Dinosaur Wars'. It looks like something out of the 1950s, which I imagine is what it's trying to do.
I'm going to over to Amazon and see if they have it. If not, I'll get it from Kobo. Thanks for mentioning this. ADDED: Here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Dinosaur-Wars-...s%3A+Earthfall |

Darlings of Romance
Increasingly, ebook authors are banding together, offering free anthologies of the initial books of their series. Today we find a collection of collections in several romance genres.

Shakespeare via Feedbooks
For the works of classic literature there are many free download options. Those that are well-formatted really stand out.
If you need an epub of one of Shakespeare's plays (for example) I would recommend a visit to Feedbooks. Their files are presented with nice covers that look good together as a set. They are formatted simply, but effectively, making it easy to read a play. Here are a couple to illustrate: http://www.feedbooks.com/book/2990/a...-night-s-dream http://www.feedbooks.com/book/2935/macbeth Feedbooks offers many other public domain works. Their site would be the first resource I would suggest to students who need epub literature files for course work. |
