This is a very special book that is quite dear to my heart.

On the surface, it might be a pulpy adventure romance taking place in the South of the United States before the secession. But, and here comes the special part, the hero falls in love with a quadroon (a mixed-race) slave. Lots of adventure ensues until the final happy-end. This is a gripping novel and succeeds to bring home a really modern message. Reid's style is very lively and this is one of the books you won't lay down easily.

I have added original illustrations from an Internet archive scan to the edited file coming from PG and Athelstane and I hope to have put it together quite seamlessly. One of the best adventure novels that I have read for a long time.
