Issue with Shelves on the Nook Glowlight 4 (NG4)

I recently purchased a NG4 and came across an issue involving shelves. I created a shelf and put one ebook into it. Then I deleted the ebook and it appeared that shelf also disappeared (but I didn't delete the shelf itself).

However, when I try and create a shelf with the same name it says that the shelf already exists despite there being no shelf with that name. I've tried wiping my Nook and also resetting it, but nothing seems to fix the problem. It's not a crucial issue, but something I'd to get fixed.

Update: I attempted to create the shelf after about a week and this time it worked. It may be that the deleted shelf name is locked for a time.

Something like that. I remember that on older NOOKs, after I would edit an epub file I would copy it to the reader but still only be able to see the previous version for a while. It was rather frustrating because I wanted to see if the changes looked good on the NOOK, but couldn't right away. It didn't update the memory immediately. I never did learn how to force it to do so.

Concerning adding ebooks, I think what would improve the situation is to have an update button that, when selected, causes the Nook to pause and update all of the information on the Nook and to deal with any internal software issues. To avoid accidentally pressing it the button should be in the settings.

One small irritant I've found with my Nook Glowlight 4 (NG4) is that when I first create a Shelf I can do a mass selection of ebooks to put on the Shelf (select all of the ebooks I want on the Shelf then name the Shelf), but once the Shelf is created I can only add additional ebooks one at a time. I could do mass additions of ebooks on a Shelf on my Nook Color at any time (just call up the list of available ebooks and then add any additional ones I want on a Shelf), but not on my NG4.

That's odd. I did what you did to create a named shelf but I could add multiple books at a time to it after. Maybe a firmware thing?

I've done the following when creating a Shelf:
  • Go to Shelves in the Library
  • Tap + and a list of ebooks will appear.
  • Select the books you want on the Shelf. The ebooks you select will have a checkmark surrounded by a circle. You can select multiple books and the Add button will show how many ebooks you are adding to the Shelf
  • Select Add
  • Name the Shelf and select Save.
I just did some checking and just discovered how to update an existing Shelf to add/remove multiple ebooks (it is in a separate area from when creating the Shelf):
  • Select the Shelf
  • Tap the three dots in the upper right corner
  • Select Manage Content in Shelf. A list of ebooks will appear, the ones already loaded on the Shelf will have a checkmark within a circle.
  • Check the books you want on the shelf and uncheck the books that you don't want on the shelf.
  • When you finish checking/unchecking ebooks tap Update
  • The Shelf will be updated
You can still add individual books from the Main Library list. Do the following:
  • For the ebook select the three dots on the right
  • Select Assign to...
  • Select Assign to Shelves
  • Select the Shelves you want the ebook added to
  • Tap Save
I hope this helps everybody.
