How do you feel about efforts to push books to compensate for present inequalities?

For instance, if there's good evidence that some types of authors or books are discriminated against not because of anything related to the quality of the book, but because people aren't completely rational or free from prejudice. Would you, in such cases, support efforts to push these kinds of books/authors, so that they may get something that's closer to an equal chance in the market?

Note: I've edited this post because my first attempt was unneccessarily snarky, and probably crossed the line into the Politics and religion-forum.

I will admit that I've never really cared enough to keep track of the apparent gender of the authors I read. I was in high school, back in the 1960s, and a big fan of Andre Norton when I found out that "he" was a "she." It surprised me a bit, but didn't shock me or keep me from reading more of her stories.

Spoiler:
And I will admit that I never considered this to be a reference book!
