Amazon 2007 Holiday Sales Great, but Kindle?
Amazon gave out this news release today about their 2007 holiday season. It was their best season ever and the release mentions sales volumes and lists several hot items. Curiously, the Kindle is not mentioned at all.

I think Amazon is trying to downplay the Kindle shortage, the disappointed people that are having to wait 6-8 weeks to receive their Kindle.

But I thought Amazon was a grocery store. I mean a sporting goods store. Or was it consumer electronics?
Their top sellers were Nintendo Wii and Harry Potter DVDs. You mean they sell books, too? |

It's a question of scale; Kindle might be "hot" in its niche, but it's a niche.
Wii is producing almost 2M units a month and I think close to 1M are shipped here and you still cannot easily find one in store at list price... |

You wont see big sales in an item if you have a tag on it that reads "Out of Stock" or "Back Order".

So do we say that the Kindle shortage is a good problem to have (ie: Yay! Big Demand!), or a problem of being shortsighted (ie:What were we thinking?!)?

I agree, at least in the short-run, it's probably a "bad" problem. PVI, the sole manufacturer of the displays, seems to be expanding rapidly, alas, not rapidly enough to meet the increase in demand.
