What I plan on doing is filling up my PW3 with ePub that it cannot handle. Your advice to turn off WiFi right after download is good advice.

There is a github discussion that was opened by a user with a 5.12.2.2.2 device and logs suggest it has the same new drm as 5.16.2.1.1 devices got infected with. (It was apparently done via some diagnostics code so was sideloaded or activated in such a way that it did not require a firmware update.)

May I ask where you found jailbreak instructions? I have a P7 on 5.16.2.1.1

Do you mean a 7th generation paperwhite aka PaperWhite 3 (PW3)? If so looks like Winterbreak is what you want.

Part of the problem is most likely that the person who posted that report didn't know what's going on. That's not to say even if you know what's going on that you cannot get your Kindle nailed with the new DRM.

It's 5.18.5 and up. But as I said, I imagine it's only a matter of time before the new DRM hits the Voyage and the 10th generation Kindles too.

I’ve no idea if it will help but I’ve jailbreaked my Voyage today. I need to do my Oasis but I have checked out the instructions yet.

I have some documents which come through as .azw3 and Kindle Unpack plugin is no longer working on them for some reason. I can import them into K4PC but as it's not a KFX file my script doesn't work on them. Any tips? I'd like to convert them to epub.

I'm running Calibre 9.7 and have K4PC 2.8 and a Kindle 7th gen on firmware 5.16.2.1.1 the kindle unpack plugin was working last week even after Amazon blocked KFX cleaning but not tonight.

They are downloading to your Paperwhite as kf8/azw3? Do you have the Paperwhite's serial number in DeDRM?

There's been no changes to the KindleUnpack plugin in quite a while. If it's not unpacking kindlebooks, the most likely issue is that they still have DRM. But I would expect there to be visual notifications if that was the case (unless it's part of a multi-book epub extraction where most messages are suppressed).

If you are getting error messages that are NOT about DRM, please post them in the KindleUnpack Calibre plugin thread, so we can see what might be wrong.

Ahh. I didn't check the kindle serial numbers. Previous upgrades to dedrm have kept existing information but when I updated last week I lost them. I've just put them back in and voila! Thank you for the reminder to check the basics.

{sigh} Do I have this right? If I jailbreak my PW2, I can downgrade the firmware, which will allow me to possibly de-DRM my books again for storage? I really need to be sure because I'm terrified of f-g it up.
What prep would you suggest before commencing? I have all the current books and articles in a new db on Calibre, ready to reinstall.
