Do you save the end of a book?
I am currently reading Stephen King's Sleeping Beauties. I am about half way through, and it is getting really good. We are driving out to Idaho to go skiing, and the book is so good, I decided to leave it for the nights of our road trip, when I always have a hard time getting to sleep (especially since my husband is an early bird and I am a night owl.)
So I saved it a week ago, and we aren't leaving until Friday, and I am going nuts. Of course the book I am reading in the meantime is awful, so that just makes it worse. I occurs to me that this is really odd behavior, but since it involves reading, I am sure someone here either does this or can tell me what they do to prolong the joy from a really good book. |

Makes sense to me.
Find a different book to read other than the awful one. |

I do not save the ending of books. Especially if they are very good books. I do not have the discipline to do so. In fact the closer to the end I get the more likely I am to forego sleep.

I do the opposite. Sometimes I read the first few pages then skip to the ending. If I like the way it ends, I start over and read the whole book.

I don't hold off finishing a book, but I don't binge-read series. The more I like a series, or even an author for that matter, the more stringently I ration myself. It's partially to prolong the pleasure, but it's also so I don't get inured to it.

Seems to me you plan to Read instead of enjoying the trip or the company.

I don't hold off reading the end of a book as a habit, but have done it a few times if circumstances warrant it. For example, if I know the end is close, and I'm having trouble staying awake, I may put off the last chapter until the next day.
I do read when we are on road trips, but save the easy reads for those times I'm reading in the car. I usually have more than one book going at a time, so almost always have something else to switch to. Quote:

Were you or were you not making a judgment about the intent/motive of the OP?
I was being judgemental of you and you're intent. Your comment was harsh. If you meant something else, you should have been more clear with your words. |

Nah, I binge read. The more I like a book, the more I want to get to the end. I would never have the discipline to hold off until later. Although I do find myself sometimes reading two novels at a time now – sometimes by the same author. (I alternate back and forth.) Right now I'm reading Dean Koontz's The City and Odd Interlude. Plus a couple non-fiction books on other e-Readers. I like the Odd Thomas character so much that I'm trying to keep from getting all the way through the series too quickly.
