Problem sending mobi file to Kindle via email

When I try to send a .mobi file to my Amazon account name@free.kindle.com, I receive an error msg from Amazon saying:

The following document, sent at 04:22 PM on Fri, Jul 28, 2011 GMT could not be delivered to the Kindle you specified:
* winmail.dat

Any ideas why the .mobi file is being sent as winmail.dat file.

That's how some email clients encode email messages/attachments. What client are you using to send the email... and do you have a different one you can try?

You could also check the settings for your client and make sure there are no encoding settings you could tweak.

Email client is Outlook.

Tired it using Gmail and it worked. I can't locate where in Outlook the encoding is done or where to tweak it.

Tools->Options->"Mail Format" Tab:
Your Mail format should probably be HTML or Plain text. Not Rich Text.

Or if you "Must use Rich Text... Click the "Internet Format" button and make sure it's set to "Convert to HTML format" When sending to internet recipients.

Note: that's where I find the settings on Outlook 2007... your mileage may vary.
