Jailbreak technically adds another certificate key to allow Kindle to accept any application package that does not come from Amazon.
It doesn't cause any crash, battery drains, etc. |

1.apply K5 JailBreak Hotfix through Update Your Kindle or command ";log mrpi" (without " ) in Search menu kindle 2.update new firmware , 3.restart your kindle TWO more times ( as some users report in this post NOT necessary step) 4.again apply the same hotfix from 1 step 4.install KUAL and all packages I think , in this way you have some protection that if your kindle updates to next firmware 5.14.4 or higher. You can use renameotabin extension to block future updates of kindle firmware. You can find renameotabin in this thread If you used "Rename" button of renameotabin extension for block updates, use "Restore" button of renameotabin before step 1 for activation "Update Your Kindle " from Settings menu of your kindle Last edited by re4om; 05-04-2022 at 07:55 AM. |

If you have trouble installing the jailbreak, remember Select English (United Kingdom) when you reset.

so guys I'm quite confused... I assumed that jailbreak works only with 5.14.2 or lower...now I was read above that can I upgrade 5.14.3 using hot fix..sounds strange... because I think 5.14.3 will remove jailbreak with hotfix too.. I used after jailbreak a renameota hotfix to prevent OTA upgrade and stay on 5.14.2...so can someone explain me , please?
ps I tried just to try to use the hotfix mentioned above and put it into main root on Kindle..but in can't ungrade anything because can't click anything...the button isn't clickable |

@Alex305: You're confusing two separate situations:
1) jailbreaking totally stock device(that can be done "up to" fw 5.14.2). = using jailbreak package. 2) making sure that jailbreak survives future firmware installs and / or fixing things on device that was previously jailbreaked after something like factory reset, firmware update, deregistering. = using "hotfix" or "jailbreak bridge" installers And "renameota" (not a hotfix!) is just a KUAL extension to be used by people that really really don't want their device to ever install newer firmware that the one currently installed. Reasons for that vary.... some people want to revert to older UI that can totally hide "home" / "recommendations" (for that you must stay on 5.14.1[.1]) or some are somewhat ok with "part one" of new UI before Amazon changed / destroyed how Collection sort work with 5.14.2. And other like to always be on the latest firmware version but also have jailbreak & KOReader & stuff. Jailbreak is "viral" and if "jailbreak bridge" successfully keeps doing its job you would in the future have like device with fw 5.19.5 that was originally jailbreaked while it was on fw 5.13.3 or whenever. My PW3 was jailbreaked while on factory firmware build 5.6.5 and is currently at fw 5.13.6 (after spending year "paused" at 5.9.7 with OTA blocker). Last edited by shamanNS; 05-01-2022 at 09:56 AM. |

Guys, I'm a little lost now.
Did the JB some days ago. Was the very first time so I installed a lot of stuff that was not installed correctly, and was pretty unsure it was done right. Last step was to try to install renameota.bin, but was also unsure if I succeded. So I decided to START FROM SCRATCH. Did a factoy restore on my gen11 PW5 on 5.14.2, and all went through pretty easily, much faster than the first time because of a little experience. But now I struggle at the last part. Copied Update_hotfix_watchthis_custom.bin to Kindle's root, unplugged, but "Update Your Kindle" is greyes out, and I don't know why and what to do. This is the watchthis_log.txt Code:
watchthis jailbreak by katadelos aka CVE-2022-23224, CVE-2022-23225, CVE-2022-23226 big thanks to niluje, yparitcher and darkassassinua for helping to test this <3 you GW "by this art you may contemplate the variations of the 23 letters" Loaded logging functions Removed existing developer key Created developer key (0) Updated permissions for developer key Enabled developer flag Enabled mntus exec flag Finished installing jailbreak! |

Download latest (released / repackaged yesteday) jailbreak hotfix from @NiLuJe's snapshots thread, copy it to Kindle, install it.
Using your PC download from Amazon's servers update bin for 5.14.2 or 5.14.3 (whickever you want to have at the end) > transfer it to your Kindle > install the update > reboot 2? times > AGAIN install the jailbreak hotfix package > reboot 2-3 times > reinstall KUAL using ";log mrpi" > rename ota binaries using "renameota" KUAL extension> done? |

WARNING: It seems "Factory restore" in fact does NOT restore factory completely. It just removes some settings and files.
But once you did "remoteotabin" it will NOT allow you to update firmware even after a factory restore. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope so, because I'm not stuck. No idea how to go back to complete factory restore and re-do the whole JB stuff or maybe update to a newer firmware once it's out. I'm now stuck with a Kindle PW5 which refuses to accepts a new JB (as it will NOT update the Update_hotfix_watchthis_custom.bin at the end of the jailbreak, and it will NOT turn off. I just ignores the power button. Strange ... Last edited by izeman; 05-01-2022 at 11:20 AM. |
