I missed a few days of the Janet Evanovich/Stephanie Plum count-up due to being busy with some family issues. But luckily the ones I missed are all still on sale, at least as of now, except for Fearless Fourteen, which was, for some reason, on sale at the beginning of this count-up, totally out of order. All $2.99 each.

I've read and liked all three of Rozlan Mohd Noor's Inspector Mislan books that have been translated into English. The books are set in Kuala Lumpur, and the author is a former Malaysian police officer, so he's writing what he knows. And I personally really enjoy reading police procedurals set in places that aren't the US or the UK . Right now the second book in the series, DUKE: Inspector Mislan and the Expressway Murders, is $1.99 at at Kindle US, as part of the Kindle US Black Friday sale, good through 29 Nov 2021. It’s not matched at Kobo US, at least as of now.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C1J4DBQ
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08C1J4DBQ

Spoiler:
Quote:
For fans of Jo Nesbø, Ian Rankin, and John Burdett, a gripping crime thriller that is steeped in the grit and feel of the street:
"Inspector Mislan Latif is my kind of detective. Harry Bosch would ride shotgun with him any time."—Michael Connelly

In the run‑up to the Eid holiday, the police department is drained of staff and the DUKE expressway jammed with vehicles, as many in Kuala Lumpur leave the capital to celebrate the end of Ramadan with their extended families. In the slow lane, a Mercedes E200 suddenly veers after several bright flashes and comes to rest against the guardrail. When the highway patrol arrives, what looked like a traffic accident turns out to be an apparent murder‑suicide of the driver and his female passenger, both having suffered gunshot wounds.

Yet, called to lend a hand with the investigation, Inspector Mislan finds something else again. The dead man and woman, a wealthy, politically connected entrepreneur and his business associate, were by all appearances engaged in a long-term affair, seemingly in love, and the crime scene doesn't add up for suicide. But then, if these two successful people were murdered, why? And how, when the car was locked from the inside? And why does the political establishment want the case closed in such an awful hurry? Once again, Mislan must find a way—with the help of his team and his politically savvy boss—to withstand the pressure from above, solve an impossible mystery, and ensure that justice prevails.

And if you want to read my reviews of any or all three of the books, they're on my blog - the address is in my signature.

An Irish Hostage is the twelfth and most recent (2021) in the Bess Crawford series by Charles Todd. It is $2.99 today as part of the US Kindle Daily Deal, matched at Kobo US.

Quote:
In the uneasy peace following World War I, nurse Bess Crawford runs into trouble and treachery in Ireland—in this twelfth book in the New York Times bestselling mystery series.

The Great War is over—but in Ireland, in the wake of the bloody 1916 Easter Rising, anyone who served in France is now considered a traitor, including nurse Eileen Flynn and former soldier Michael Sullivan, who only want to be married in the small, isolated village where she grew up. Even her grandmother is against it, and Eileen’s only protection is her cousin Terrence who was a hero of the Rising and is still being hunted by the British.

Bess Crawford had promised to be there for the wedding. And in spite of the danger to her, she keeps that promise—only to be met with the shocking news that the groom has vanished. Eileen begs for her help, but how can Bess hope to find him when she doesn’t know the country, the people, or where to put her trust? Time is running out, for Michael and for Bess herself, and soon her own life is on the line. With only an Irish outlaw and a man being hunted for murder on her side, how can she possibly save herself, much less stop a killer?

I liked the first two mysteries in Max Tomlinson's Colleen Hayes series. The series is sort of a detective-procedural series, mixed with a touch of noir, set in 1970s San Francisco. (Disclaimer: I lived near San Francisco in the 1970s, so I have a bit of fondness for the locale.) Now the third in the series, Bad Scene, is on sale for $1.99 at Kindle US.

Quote:
1978 San Francisco—a cult leader in Ecuador—one woman's struggle to reconnect with her lost daughter before it is too late

When PI and ex-con, Colleen Hayes, learns that a local neo-Nazi group are talking about shooting the mayor, she thinks it's just another rumor—until her source, a humble street newspaper vendor, winds up in SF General, beaten to a pulp.

To add to her grief, she discovers that her runaway daughter, Pamela, might have joined a shadowy religious group, building a church in South America near a volcano that is about to erupt. Death is the path to perfection according to the charismatic young preacher—and the date is fast approaching.

Colleen is desperate to find a way to stop her daughter from making the ultimate mistake before she—along with hundreds of others—lose their lives.

I've mentioned before that I really like Ruth Downie's Gaius Petreius Ruso/Tilla series, set in Roman Britain (and around the Roman empire of the time). I'm especially fond of Tilla's character, even though she doesn't get top billing. Now all eight of the books in the series are on sale in an omnibus. The titles are:
  • Medicus (apa Ruso and the Disappearing Dancing Girls)
  • Terra Incognita (apa Ruso and the Demented Doctor)
  • Persona Non Grata (apa Ruso and the Root of All Evils)
  • Caveat Emptor (apa Ruso and the River of Darkness)
  • Simper Fidelis
  • Tabula Rasa
  • Vita Brevis
  • Memento Mori
The only missing title is a novella, Prima Facie.

The omnibus is $3.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, but it's also discountable at Kobo, so if you use the "partners" discount code, you get 40% off. And that is stackable with your Kobo VIP discount, if you belong to their VIP program, so I'm seeing it at $2.15 for all eight books right now. That's cheap enough to buy it even if you only need one more, much less if you need more...

In the New York Times bestselling Medicus series, Roman occupied Britannia is beset by crime, and army doctor Gaius Petreius Ruso is determined to catch the killers and restore order to the empire. With a gift for comic timing and historic detail, Ruth Downie has conjured an ancient world as raucous and real as our own and a hero readers will root for through every adventure.

And multi-use code "partners" works on this as well at Kobo US, bringing $4.85 down to $2.91. Note that "partners" is multi-use, but only one book per checkout, so you have to just do mulitple checkouts if you want to use it more than once.

This is the second or third Bloomsbury bundle that has gone on sale in the US in the last couple of days, but I am totally slammed today, and don't have time to look for more. But if you have a favorite Bloomsbury author, you might check for bundles . (And post if you find, of course....)
