Kobo Aura One not waterproof?
Left my Aura One out in the rain today by mistake and it's stopped working. A load of water drained out of the USB port when I picked it up and there's condensation inside.
The screen's gone wild and some of the white LEDs have turned blue. :-( Is this (another) warranty job or will it dry out over time? More importantly, isn't it supposed to be able to take the occasional splash? |

How the heck could you leave your Reader out in the rain?

Read outside by a table while eating and drinking, go inside taking the food and drink but leaving the ereader because you don't have a hand free to hold it and don't dare put it in a pocket even for a short time. Get inside, get distracted by a phone call, someone at the door, kid, spouse, housemate, or any number of things and forget about leaving the ereader on the table outside.
Pockets save ereaders from drowning. |

I suppose it matters how long it was out in the rain. Not sure what ipx8 says about that when it's not completly under water.
But I think it should handle it. I would ask for warranty replacement unless it was outside for something like a whole (rainy) day (or in very high or low temperature). |

I'd suggest turning it off and placing it in a warm dry spot for 24-48 hours and then try it again. The internal coating should have protected the onboard electronics from the water but some of the connectors are likely wet. If this doesn't help, you should have a decent case for a warranty exchange. |

Jon, Jon, Jon... In case you hadn't noticed yet, shit happens. On one occasion, I abandoned my original Kobo outside and was just lucky that it didn't rain enough to cause issues or someone didn't walk off with it. Something to do with my daughter and a neighbour's son on his skateboard attempting to occupy the same space resulting in a trip for two to the emergency ward.

Only in the rain for about 10 minutes when I came off the phone and saw it hammering down through the window.

It works but air drying works better -- I use a box with a fan for air movement and a heater borrowed from a chicken incubator. Silica gel and crystalline kitty litter which contains silica gel were the next two choices. I did find one oddity in their test results -- how do you lose 7.6ml of water from a sponge that had 5ml of water added to it?
