Kindle DX 2
I just preordered the Kindle DX. I can't see myself buying another Kindle unless it's color. Let's hope it's out in color within 2 years.

I'm excited about the DX but I'm going to wait and see what Pixel Qi brings out. If it's truly as readable and has the color option and decent battery life, I'll get myself a tablet or netbook with that. If it seems we might be a few more years from a good offering there, I'll go with the DX. I don't want to get the DX and then immediately want something else. I like the convenience of the Amazon store, though. Hopefully if my holy grail screen comes out, they'll also like it and use it in a device. What would be really great is if they started licensing other devices to use the store.

there is an announcement by PVI that the color e-ink won't come out before 2010. so i'm thinking now that maybe it'll come out in fall 2010 and thus buying the DX right now might be a bad idea. but then i can always just sell off the DX and buy the new color one I suppose.

I remember reading something as well that put color e-ink a ways out. 2010 at least.

And rumor has it that Sony is also going to bring out larger screen reader later this year.

I hope so, and that's really the next logical step. I think the technology is actually already in it's infancy, and I'm sure we'll see it move to market fairly rapidly. I'm certain there will be a strong demand for it.

Guess it depends on how long you're willing to wait for color? I'd take it now if it was available, but 2010 might as well be 2030. I wouldn't wait to buy a Kindle for color. I don't read many color books.

If a color version isn't out within 2 years I would be VERY suprised. If Apple release the rumored 9.5" touch color screen device in June, then that will certainly light a fire under Amazon's bottom.

i don't see why people are yapping about the apply tablet lcd. it's LCD! it's not going to have enough battery life and it isn't epaper. people will definitely not be buying the apple tablet in place of an ebook.

I still don't want a finger-print smudged touchscreen as a READING device.

I will and I think many more will also. Battery life won't be near as long as an e-ink reader. But if I can walk in the evening, unplug it, read a few emails, surf a few websites (like MR) and then read awhile before plugging it back in, that's good enough for me, and I'll take one device that will do several things well, above one that does one think great. YMMV but that fits my needs best and I guess that's why they build Fords and Chevys.
