Saying that "reviewers like the PP" is thanks to them receiving hand selected devices which they, at most spent a dozen hours using. While there are BUYERS of the device who have received multiple defective replacement copies. Within a finite set or parameters sure the device works OK. Venture in to other areas and there are either software/firmware, hardware (unknown as to the real cause of the battery or USB transfer issues, right?) or even something as basic as getting the shell right. There is NO REASON anyone unhappy with their experience with an Astak device should post details as to why nor need to tell Astak what to fix, that is Astak's problem not the user as there are some far better options than the Pocket Pro. Theese users bought a Pocket Pro and it failed to live up to expectations. Deal with that fact and quit creating adversarial relationships with those who do not just learn to live with these issues. Here is my top ten: 1) LIT & HTML support. Both of these would probably take three minutes to fix because they are so close, but just not quite there. 2) Option to detect paragraphs, maybe adding a space (or not) between them. 3) Some form of smooth auto scroll. (I know that will never happen, but I sure would love the option!) 4) More fonts, more size configuration. This has been discussed already. 5) Option of progress bar instead of pages read/total pages. The only place I see this is FB2 files. 6) Clock available as yew read. One that does NOT reset after yew turn the device off. I understand that hardware might make the reset thing impossible. 7) Option to delete files and recent file history. Why the heck isn't that there already? 8) I wouldn't use a dictionary, but I know others want it, so I add it here. 9) Promised ereader support, which is why I bought the dang thing to begin with! 10) Also Mobi support that was there, and is not there any longer. I know yew may not have a say in the ereader and mobi, but we would like to have them, I am sure I am not the only one? Yes. |

You should stick to things that are possible. The device does read mobi, but it's mobi licencing that prevents it handling mobi DRM files at the same time as Adobe and ePub. I'd much rather have ePub as I believe in open standard formats. It actually seems strange to be using mobi which uses a file format that belongs on a Palm OS device - a system that is dieing quickly, even Palm have moved on.

I'd be happy with that ONLY if it was an option that could be set and saved in the settings. Some people would find it helpful, but I personally would find it distracting....so the option to add it would be preferable.

In Mobile ADE there is no status bar anyway, and probably never will be unless Adobe decides to make one available? So, you get no status bar with the ADE formats EPUB and PDF, but there is a status bar for CoolReader formats like FB2, TXT, and RTF. The time display is optional already in the Lbook CoolReader and it just shows beside the page count if the option is enabled. So there really is no change in screen real estate when the clock display is enabled. |

Thanks Dave. Yeah, I mainly use epub. I guess as you said, it would be up to Adobe.

That's certainly not universally true, Dave. Both the Sony Reader and the CyBook Opus display a status bar for ePub files; it shows the current page number in the form "Page 50 of 200", for example.

That could certainly be the case, but this is the Astak forum, and not the Sony or CyBook forum. If Sony and Cybook can have a status bar in Mobile ADE then I guess there is hope that the Jinke devices may sometime get that option too.

And I was simply pointing that it IS the case with the ADE on Jinke devices on which the Astak devices in this forum are based.
