A bunch of titles in the Lanny Budd series by Upton Sinclair have been on sale recently, but I haven't yet noticed the first one, World's End, on sale. Now it is - it has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: http://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Lanny-B...dp/B018V77ID0/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/world-s-end-23

Spoiler:
Quote:
From the acclaimed author of The Jungle: The first in a Pulitzer Prize–winning historical saga about the son of an American arms dealer during WWI.

Lanning “Lanny” Budd spends his first thirteen years in Europe, living at the center of his mother’s glamourous circle of friends on the French Riviera. In 1913, he enters a prestigious Swiss boarding school and befriends Rick, an English boy, and Kurt, a German. The three schoolmates are privileged, happy, and precocious—but their world is about to come to an abrupt and violent end.

When the gathering storm clouds of war finally burst, raining chaos and death over the continent, Lanny must put the innocence of youth behind him; his language skills and talent for decoding messages are in high demand. At his father’s side, he meets many important political and military figures, learns about the myriad causes of the conflict, and closely follows the First World War’s progress. When the bloody hostilities eventually conclude, Lanny joins the Paris Peace Conference as the assistant to a geographer asked by President Woodrow Wilson to redraw the map of Europe.

Perfect for fans of The Winds of War, World’s End is the magnificent opening chapter of a monumental series that brings the first half of the twentieth century to vivid life. A thrilling mix of history, adventure, and romance, the Lanny Budd Novels are a testament to the breathtaking scope of Upton Sinclair’s vision and his singular talents as a storyteller.

The Infinite Blacktop is the third and most recent (a couple of weeks ago) in the Claire DeWitt series by Sara Gran. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DD2TQ51

Spoiler:
Quote:
Driven off the desert road and left for dead, Claire DeWitt knows that it is someone from her past trying to kill her, she just doesn't know who. Making a break for it from the cops who arrive on the scene, she sets off in search of the truth, or whatever version of it she can find. But perhaps the biggest mystery of all lies deeper than that, somewhere out there on the ever rolling highway of life.

Set between modern day Las Vegas and LA, The Infinite Blacktop sees Claire at her lowest point yet, wounded and disorientated, but just about hanging on.

Too smart for her own good, too damaged to play by the rules, too crazy for most - have you got what it takes to follow the self-appointed 'best detective in the world'?

While Elizabeth is recuperating, John learns that Lady Sidmouth’s cousin, Miranda, is to marry the elderly Earl of St. Austell, who is more than fifty years her senior and has a cruel reputation. As the wedding day approaches, John feels increasingly uneasy, and before too long his worst forebodings are realized . . .

Cross-post to the non-fiction thread, where Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her by Melanie Rehak may be of interest to some of the folks reading this thread too. The book appears to be pretty much what the title says it is, and per the blurb, won an Edgar for Best Biography and was a Chicago Tribune Best Book of the Year.

Presidential Agent is the fifth in the Lanny Budd series by Upton Sinclair. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018V77HTU
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/presidential-agent

Spoiler:
Quote:
On the eve of World War II, Lanny Budd reenters the deadly snake pit of Nazi Germany as Roosevelt’s spy—in the pulse-pounding, Pulitzer Prize–winning series.

An American art expert raised in a world of European wealth and privilege, Lanny Budd is dedicated to his socialist ideals and to combatting the twin scourges of Nazism and Fascism. In 1937, a chance encounter in New York with Professor Charles Alston—his boss at the Paris Peace Conference and now one of President Roosevelt’s top advisors—provides Lanny with the opportunity to make a profound difference.

Appointed Presidential Agent 103, the international art dealer embarks on a secret assignment that takes him back into the Third Reich as the Allied powers prepare to cede Czechoslovakia to Adolf Hitler in a futile attempt to avoid war. But Lanny’s motivations are not just political: The woman he loves has fallen into the brutal hands of the Gestapo, and Lanny will risk everything to save her.

Presidential Agent is the action-packed fifth installment of Upton Sinclair’s Pulitzer Prize–winning series that brings the first half of the twentieth century to dramatic life. An astonishing mix of history, adventure, and romance, the Lanny Budd Novels are a testament to the breathtaking scope of the author’s vision and his singular talents as a storyteller.

A couple of Open Road titles have gone on sale at Kindle UK for less than £2.00. Although they go on sale regularly, incessantly, almost annoyingly, in the US, it's a little unusual to see Open Road titles for this sort of price in the UK. So, for those of you who don't travel:

He Done Her Wrong, Toby Peters #8, by Stuart M. Kaminsky, £1.40: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KFDX36A

The Little Parachute, non-series, looks like more of a thriller than a mystery, by J. Robert Janes, £1.46:
