Wishbones is the 8th in the Sarah Booth Delaney series by Carolyn Haines. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Books in this series don't go on sale very often, so grab it if you want it...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Wishbones-Sar...dp/B00139XTBE/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/wishbones

Spoiler:
Quote:
Southern gal Sarah Booth Delaney packs up her hound dog and her P.I. business and sets off for Hollywood to take a shot at stardom. No stranger to acting, she aces the screen test for a racy remake of the movie Body Heat alongside leading man Graf Miliau. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and why not? Graf has already starred in one of Sarah's previous affairs and is well on his way to landing a big part in the sequel.

Thrilled as Sarah is, her dream come true comes at a price. She has to leave behind her family's ancestral home in Mississippi, her closest friends, and the possibility of settling down with her longtime love to film on location in Costa Rica. And it's not long before rivalries flare, mysterious accidents occur, and this leading lady finds herself in some steamy tabloids without turning up in a single frame of film.

Carolyn Haines's Wishbones takes the sultry romance and colorful friendships of this delightfully Southern series and heads out west for a mystery that is as thrilling off camera as it is on.

And yet another Edward Marston title for £1.90 at Kindle UK. I wonder how Allison & Busby came up with that sale price, rather than, say £1.99 - they have been really consistent with it for a while...

The Fair Maid of Bohemia, 9th in the Nicholas Bracewell series:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fair-Maid-B...dp/B00FO82SQM/

Quote:
Murder turns the journey of a lifetime into a deadly nightmare

Invited to perform at the wedding celebrations of Sophia Magdalena, the fair maid of Bohemia, the company’s bookholder Nicholas Bracewell and his acting troupe begin the long journey across Europe.

Confident they will arrive safely and deliver Lord Westfield’s secret missive to an alchemist in the Imperial Court, Nicholas is unaware what danger travels with them. Treacherous seas become the least of Nicholas’ worries when one of their actors is savagely killed. To make matters worse, when they finally arrive in Prague, Holy Roman Emperor Rudolph II proves to be an eccentric and bewildering host and Nicholas’ beloved Anne Hendrik is kidnapped...

Ooooh! Great idea - I didn't think about using the series link when the author-based one I did kept coming up one title short.

Although Upton Sinclair is not listed in SYKM, and wrote across a number of genres, these look pretty much spy-thillerish, so I'm listing here.

The Lanny Budd Novels Volume Two: Wide Is the Gate, Presidential Agent, and Dragon Harvest omnibus is pretty much what it sounds like - the fourth, fifth and sixth titles in the series featuring "the adventures of a brilliant spy in the first half of the twentieth century". It has dropped to $2.99 today as a US Kindle Daily Deal.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Books four through six in the Pulitzer Prize–winning series of historical novels following the adventures of a brilliant spy in the first half of the twentieth century.

An ambitious and entertaining mix of history, adventure, and romance, Upton Sinclair’s Pulitzer Prize–winning Lanny Budd novels are a testament to the breathtaking scope of the author’s vision and his singular talents as a storyteller. “Few works of fiction are more fun to read; fewer still make history half as clear, or as human” (Time). In these three novels, as the threat of Nazism grows in the 1930s, Lanny progresses from international art dealer to international spy.

Wide Is the Gate: When his arms dealer father strikes a business agreement with Hermann Göring, Lanny uses the opportunity and his art world reputation to move easily among the Nazi high command and gather valuable information he can transmit back to those who are dedicated to the destruction of Nazism and Fascism. He’s playing a dangerous—albeit necessary—game, which will carry him from Germany to Spain on a life-and-death mission on the eve of the Spanish Civil War.

The Presidential Agent: In 1937, Lanny’s boss from the Paris Peace Conference—now one of Roosevelt’s top advisors—connects him to the president. Appointed Presidential Agent 103, he embarks on a secret assignment that takes him back into the Third Reich as the Allied powers prepare to cede Czechoslovakia to Adolf Hitler in a futile attempt to avoid war. But Lanny’s motivations are not just political: The woman he loves has fallen into the brutal hands of the Gestapo, and Lanny will risk everything to save her.

Dragon Harvest: Lanny has earned the trust of Adolf Hitler and his inner circle, who are convinced the American art dealer is a “true believer” committed to their Fascist cause. But when Roosevelt’s secret agent learns of the Führer’s plans for conquest, his dire warnings to Neville Chamberlain and other reluctant European leaders fall on deaf ears. The bitter seeds sown decades earlier with the Treaty of Versailles are now bearing fruit, and there will be no stopping the Nazi war machine as it rolls relentlessly on toward Paris.

And now a good chunk of the rest of the series has dropped to $2.99 - $3.99, some at Kindle US, and some at Kobo US. In addition, it's worth noting that there is also an omnibus of the first three titles that is not on sale at either Kindle or Kobo right now. But since these are Open Road titles in the US, it's pretty likely the omnibus will go on sale itself sometime, and offer even better prices for those three books - up to you whether to wait for that or not.

Anyway, here are links for the Upton Sinclair/Lanny Budd titles that are on sale at each retailer, in price ascending order.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?se...price-asc-rank
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search?qu...&sort=PriceAsc

Three Kings of Cologne is the 16th in the Roger the Chapman series by Kate Sedley. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (VIP/couponable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Three-Kings-C...dp/B00FJ3641W/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/three-kings-of-cologne

Spoiler:
Quote:
Foul play is suspected when the corpse of a young woman is unearthed after twenty years in this “well-crafted” Roger the Chapman novel (Publishers Weekly).

England, 1481. As land is being cleared for a new chapel to be dedicated to the three kings of Cologne, the remains of Isabella Linkinhorne are discovered. Known to have had three secret lovers, Isabella had disappeared twenty years earlier. Alderman John Foster, the mayor of Bristol, commissions Roger the Chapman to determine if one of her three suitors did her in. Faced with the task of tracking down three people about whom he knows next to nothing, Roger nicknames them Caspar, Balthazar, and Melchior, after the three kings. Will the perceptive peddler be able to solve this twenty-year-old mystery?

This is book 16 in the Roger the Chapman mysteries series.

“Sedley effortlessly incorporates the details of daily life for a range of socioeconomic groups as Roger goes in search of answers. Roger’s droll sense of humor enlivens a narrative full of unexpected plot twists.” —Publishers Weekly

“Sedley knows how to create authentic period ambience, build strong characters, and deliver plenty of adventure. Add a healthy serving of dry wit, and you have a fine series that just keeps getting better.” —Booklist

Quote:
A police detective struggles to outwit a twisted killer in a “breathless” crime novel by the New York Times–bestselling author of Undercurrents (Chicago Tribune).

Carmel, California is a scenic, peaceful tourist haven where James Dewitt is the police force’s only detective. His usual caseload is stolen bicycles and an occasional burglary—but things are about to change with frightening speed.

A series of apparent suicides—which soon prove to be murders—shocks the community. Dewitt, a former forensic scientist, struggles with the smallest of clues in his quest for the killer, while departmental turf wars and local politics increase the pressures on his investigation. His steps are further dogged by renegade ex-cop Howard Lumbrowski—the man Dewitt blames for his wife's death. How is Lumbrowski connected to the killings? And why does he have information from Dewitt's confidential files? Dewitt finds himself playing a dangerous game, breaking his own rules in a desperate search for answers . . .

“A natural storyteller . . . He keeps the thread going, twisting the details . . . dancing the forensic shuffle without missing a step.” —Richmond Times-Dispatch

Murdered by Nature is the 36th in the Inspector Alvarez series by Roderic Jeffries. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Murdered-Natu...dp/B00AMQF1WE/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The death of a mysterious stranger puts Inspector Alvarez back on the case in “a delightful and entertaining series that never seems to lose a step” (Booklist).

Inspector Enrique Alvarez of the Majorca police department is in a good mood, for once. The October sun is shining, no one interrupted his mid-morning nap, and his irascible boss—Superior Chief Salas—is on holiday. But his new-found optimism soon leads to disaster. In no time at all, Alvarez is mired down by a seemingly impossible task—identifying a man drowned in the bay, who it quickly transpires may not have been drowned at all.

When the autopsy report reveals that Colin Kerr was poisoned by prussic acid, Inspector Alvarez fears that he has a murder on his hands. The scant clues lead to Laura Ashton, whose fabulously wealthy husband recently drowned in a sailing accident. During his month-long stay on the Spanish resort island, Kerr paid a visit to the Ashtons’ villa, Son Dragó. Inspector Alvarez hates to intrude on a widow’s grief, but he can’t help but notice the almond trees on the grounds of Son Dragó—almonds, Alvarez knows, can be used to make prussic acid. Even more unsettling: Laura Ashton’s palpable anxiety over the disposition of her husband’s will. What’s got her so worried? And what business did Kerr have with Charles Ashton?

As one disturbing question leads to another, Inspector Alvarez wishes he were sipping brandy rather than solving a mystery. But the wheels of justice never stop turning, even in paradise.

America, 1773. Following a long and perilous journey, John Rawlings has arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, to pursue a new business venture. He finds the place riven with tension and unrest. There are many who feel it’s time the colonies sought freedom from British rule, and the seething resentment erupts into outright rebellion during the notorious Boston Tea Party. But has someone taken advantage of the chaos to commit cold-blooded murder?

Called in to examine a body fished out of Boston Harbor, Rawlings recognizes one of his fellow travelers from England. If he could unearth the truth about the victim’s past, he would be one step closer to catching the killer. But has Rawlings become a pawn in a bigger, even more sinister game?
