Can I wirelessly connect to my Kobo Aura One to my Windows computer to browse files?
Or, do I have to use the USB connection method? (I'm under the impression that this only works after exiting from KOReader, right?)

Yep, no USB outside of the stock software on Kobo.
There are a number of ways of achieving wireless nirvana, though, so you'll have to be more specific (specifically, depending on which end of the equation does the grunt work: the device, or a computer). |

You can manage books from your device (connected to a windows computer) or from the windows computer (connected to your device).
Since you seem to look for an alternative for usb mass storage I would bet for the later. In that case you can use SFTP |

I also tried without enabling "Login without password" and entered a random password. Same result.

Ah. I realized I was not on the same Wifi network on my Kobo and on my computer. Got it to work.
Next problem: I don't know what's the correct format for an authorized_keys file |

Nothing against Filezilla but I would recommend WinSCP for the task. It has great documentation, including public key auth: https://winscp.net/eng/docs/guide_public_key

IIRC, I've been using PuTTY's agent (Pageant) for this kind of purposes (and it's recognized by FZ, IIRC) whenever I've had to suffer through a session of debugging on Windows.
It's mildly annoying because you need to convert an OpenSSH key to PuTTy's format, but, eh. It's also completely orthogonal to the original question, as that's always in OpenSSH format anyway . Putty's keygen/convert prints it out nicely, though, if memory serves. |
