It does look a bit more colourful in real life than this, but this is after boosting the saturation and brightness of the original image before transferring to the jetBook...

Hi Andrew
Thanks for the pictures. The colors are OK. I was wondering if you could print one of the attached images The trick is to print on paper something that could cover the entire page and to see how much that gets rescaled on Jetbook (that should be for both B&W and color because by my understanding the ereader has different resolutions for the two modes) In you case you seemed to have matched the size of the two. Looking at your pictures I would say that I can expect a full page color image to be reascaled seriously since there is around 25% of the paper left blank in order to match the size of the two renderings |

There is no Black and White mode on the Jetbook color. The only way to achieve black and white is to convert the original image to grayscale. Color is done with filters over the pixels and cannot be removed. See our wiki for details. People in this forum have constantly attempted to confuse this issue.

There is no confusion. That was just a way to name the two different resolutions
Attached to my initial message you have two PDFs. Displaying them on JetBook Color should result in different images on the screen. We would like to see those compared with their printed version of each PDF/JPG |

To what I see, it seems like the jetbook has 256 B&W shades.
About on par with the kindle, or Sony reader e-ink devices! On MobileRead the Jetbook was pretty active, a couple of weeks ago! But we hardly hear now from anyone! I hope they enable browsing, wifi, and keyboard support (USB HUB with mouse and keyb to attach to the device like it was a tablet)! |

There is no black and white mode or colour mode, just the one display. It has 1200x1600 sub-pixels clustered into fours for the colour. Displaying black and white uses all the sub-pixels independently. Displaying colours uses the clusters of four resulting in the 600x800 resolution for coloured stuff. I and others have explained this elsewhere, linked to reference material and I've posted a USB microscope shot at 400x mag showing two black lines crossing each other, each one only being one sub-pixel wide (therefore using the whole 1200x1600 resolution). What more do you want? Andrew Last edited by andyh2000; 02-23-2012 at 01:47 PM. |

A picture :-))
I hope you do realize that for a PDF like the last one that I uploaded here we should expect some "distortions" or irregularities in the rendering process. I can't understand how the model you explained above works when you mix colour and text. That means that where you have B on W text you see a characters with rendered with different DPI that when you have coloured text.... so I do not think that for us who do not have the device is very easy to figure that out... |
