Introducing Hulu Plus: More wherever. More whenever. Than ever.

http://blog.hulu.com/2010/06/29/intr...ver-than-ever/

The last question, and an obvious one, is how much this costs. We wanted Hulu Plus to be priced for as many people as possible. We’re thrilled to be able to bring all of this to you for the price of just $9.99 a month.
Not a big TV guy myself (we haven't even made the switch from analog to digital cable yet ), but I know a lot of people were wondering what Hulu was going to do in the mobile space. The lack of Flash on the iPhone/iPad obviously isn't going to be an issue for Hulu after all-I'm assuming they are using HTML5?

Hulu is keeping the ads and is instead providing subscribers with the ability to watch shows on a plethora of media platforms. Apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad will let users of those devices catch shows on the go via WiFi and 3G, and Internet-enabled TVs and BluRay players will bring the experience to the living room. Hulu also says PlayStation 3 users will have access to its content "soon," and Xbox 360 fans will see Hulu in their dashboards in "early 2011." Plus subscribers are also provided with and HD 720p stream for all shows.
Ads too.

I would instantly subscribe. Unfortunately, Hulu is still discriminating against non-US viewers ...

I know-it is so stupid! They have a huge untapped market out there. And unlike books and movies, they can't really have the same geographic publishing restrictions for local TV shows, can they? Or, maybe they do. Still seems crazy to ignore the global desires for this stuff-just drop in local ads, charge for subtitles, seems like a great missed opportunity.

Sure they do.
US TV/production companies can make good money reselling popular programmes abroad.

So re-sell them. Why is it so hard? They already air on the networks here in Canada. All we need is the mobile architecture. HGTV Canada is the only network to have an iPad app so far that plays free shows.

You might want to try out a VPN-provider with IP-addresses in the U.S, there's both free services and those that cost money.

HotspotShield which is very popular has been blocked by Hulu several times, I don't know the status as of today, if they are still blocked.

I doubt very much its Hulu's choice. The networks will only license them to show their content in the US because the advertisers are in the US. They would have to, for instance, find UK advertisers to advertise on Hulu and and tailor the service to show appropriate commercials for each country.

It's hard but not impossible.

The free app is available now, and it even has a free gallery of shows to try it out. Quality looks good on wifi on the iPad.
