I don't think cover size is your problem. I don't have a Kindle of any kind, but in theory the cover thumbnail issue with the Paper White has been fixed since calibre 9.3.

  • Kindle driver: Increase the size of the cover thumbnails sent by calibre to the device. This fixes the problem of cover thumbnails not showing up on the PaperWhite

I'm using 9.11 and just about to upgrade to 9.12 so it should be working then. :o\ It's not all my covers just some. I just don't understand why I can't get them to load. :o(
